I'm not as ambitious as Langston to put together a 24-hour race in celebration of my birthday, but I am planning a 3 hour 27 minute event marking the half-century of time I'll have put in on planet earth come March 27 this year.
It will take place on 3/31/07, starting at 1:19.57 from 2020 Cycle.
I feel comfortable saying this as a member of .83 silver.
Fuck you are old.
my 39th b-day is on the 23rd but I had no interest in putting an alley cat together.

Maybe there should be a designation beyond .83 solver for the really fucking old, like .83 platinum or something. Anejo, perhaps.

I definitely will try to be there, Dave.
However, I don't think anyone will be able to get all the checkpoints with the mileage you're proposing. Your 327 Patchkit Alleycat had half the number of checkpoints (8) on around a 32 mile course, and the fastest person did it in around 2:15, which is just under 15 mph. I don't think anyone's going to top 15 mph with double the number of checkpoints. The main problem is that, no matter how fast you can travel on the open road, you just can't go very fast in the city without taking incredibly stupid risks.
Which is not to say this is a bad thing; figuring out on the fly which checkpoints you have to cut out because you're running out of time is a fun challenge.
A couple more points: you need to figure out what the penalty is for going overtime. Also, the easiest way to get the most miles is just to ignore the checkpoints, find a nice, flat course nearby, and do laps. You'd have to figure out whether this is something you want to discourage or not.
But don't let me discourage you; this sounds like a great time.

Dave this looks like so much fun! I agree with Greg's comment that having a lap-based course would be more effective to put the speed down to do a half-century in the time frame.
I saw you at the bike swap today! Damn I saw about 2/3rds of .83!

Thanks Greg and Chris for your thoughts; I'm still figuring out how it's all gonna work; but I've got plenty of time to do so.
After the Swap I rode out to Kenmore to a possible stop, the Chapel of St. Thomas on the Bastyr University campus; it might be asking to much for folks to consider going there, but it's a pretty cool late 50s building; to me it looks like something out of sci-fi film from that era.

What I meant was, if I wanted to win the 'most miles' category (hey man, $50), I would just completely ignore every checkpoint and find a nice loop (does Seattle U have a track?). Or set up on a trainer. It'd be boring as hell, but I'd beat everyone who climbed hills, dodged traffic, and stopped for checkpoints, guaranteed.
So if you want to avoid this form of 'cheating', I'd make a rule like you have to visit some minimum number of checkpoints to win the mileage prize, or something like that. On the other hand, maybe this is just the sort of insane behavior that deserves a reward.

If it's really cool and you want people to seriously consider it, you can always make certain checkpoints worth more --- the chapel could be worth 2, 3 or even 5 checkpoints. That's what the Street Scramble people do, essentially. E.g., http://www.streetscramble.com/uptown-2005-map-low-res.jpg,
if you can decipher that. They run races with a similar conceit: visit as many places as you can within a certain time limit.

On this, my first full day of Spring break, I did a sort of shakedown ride, testing the route and learned a few things.
The whole loop is virtually 50 miles and visits lots of interesting spots in our fair city. I had to cut out West Seattle and Kenmore, but the good news there is that there will be fewer 'deadhead' miles of just backtracking.
In addition to solo prizes, I'm going to offer prizes for teams of 2 and 3 or more. 50 bucks! A trio or quartet that split up could hit all the stops in 3:27 easy, I think, and not have to kill themselves, which somebody doing it alone--unless they were Daniel Featherhead or Seth--might have to.
I hope lots of us can come out; it would be hilariously appropriate to me if 50 people did it.

Dave, do you see any problems with me doing it on a Trail-A-Bike with my 6-year old? I'd only do it this way if the weather was good, and the kid's been on a number of 3-hour Street Scrambles on the Trail-A-Bike, so the time/distance should not be an issue. But if we had to go into a bar, for example, that might be a problem.

Kids yes!
My kid is probably going to do some of it, and the end stop IS a bar, but it's an all-ages Pub.

Looks like it might be relatively nice tomorrow. I hope "yinz guys" (that's how we say "y'all" in my hometown of Pittsburgh) can come out tomorrow.
I didn't get much schwag for prizes, but here's some inducement, maybe:
$50 cash prizes for most checkpoints, men's and women's divisions (I'm gonna use miles as the tiebreaker)
$50 cash prize for most checkpoints/miles 2 person team
$50 cash for most checkpoints/miles 3 or more person team
50 half dollars, 50 quarters, 50 dimes, and 50 nickles for other prizes
Mini liquor bottles, mini Sharpies, and half of 100 Grand Bars for party favors
Optional safety meeting mid-race
Some pitchers of beer at race end

I skipped one checkpoint on Phinney Ridge. Looks like a variant of this route could have swept the course in 40 miles. Gmaps says my route was 36 miles, my lying odometer says 37.
Note that I got real confused at the Denny/Westlake checkpoint, and slightly confused at Matthews Beach. Also, light rail construction made crossing MLK at Alaska challenging to say the least.
More to come. But for now, thanks Dave!
