Riding down that fucking thing was scary, bombed down it (after drinking beers at Aaron's shop) & got off on 4th Ave N on the way to Georgetown to drink (more) at 9 Pound Hammer before going to Belltown to drink (more) at The Lava Lounge.
Next up is rocking 5 North from Downtown to the U-District across the Ship Canal Bridge.

When I said West Seattle Bridge I meant West Seattle Freeway, not that Harbor Island thing. The high bridge with the cars. I did NOT see a sign that said No Bikes...

Seriously I had a roommate attempt 520 about 4 years ago. I never got the full story out of him because he was sort of embarrassed due to the outcome but I think it is awesome he made it as far as he did. That summer he had gotten a garage sale roadbike and was doing a lot of riding on his off day during the week. He'd never been to Bellevue and wanted to go so I guess he merged onto 520. It must have been at like 4or5 when the traffic is crawling. Anyway he ended up getting taken out by one of the expansion joints on the bridge, it taco'd his front wheel and sent him over the bars. Some nice old couple threw him and what was left of the bike in their pick-up and took him to the hospital. I think he fractured and arm and had arm, chest and face road rash.

i drive on 520 almost every day. ive dreamed about doing that a few times. during heavy traffic you could pass half of the cars on the bridge.

i never thought about those joints though. there are some burly ones right before the bridge deck. small wheels would get jammed in there for sure.

what if we did it right at rush hour on mountain bikes? if we were prepared we could totally just hop the joints couldn't we?

perhaps it's the extremely cheap and strong drinks that the Moon Temple served me tonight... but i think this is totally doable.

Are you serious!?

The high bridge? WTF? Gregg is the new Evil Knievel.

Really?! Seriously?! Man, I am impressed. I thought you were going to Highland Park Way.

That was the plan - I lost my friend Nick when I was splitting cars & didn't see him turn off. I figured that would be the quickest way to go. I don't think climbing up that thing on the other side would be very much fun though.
