Just talked to one of the organizers:
The date is set. It's March 31st @ 11 AM. More people, more teams. Get working on your non-rule-breaking shopping cart/chariot of doom.

I was just googling for this yesterday but didn't turn up anything. I heard Lee was in training for this running around Greenlake. March 31st is also Bout 2 for the Rat City Roller Girls. I was thinking we should make an outing to one of those. We could do 1 or 2 teams for the idotirod then head to the roller girls later on.

And riders can go straight from there (with our without chariots) to the Half-Century ralleycat!

I still have the chariot of doom. Even if we don't get to ride bikes this time, it would work very nicely for hauling people, with the addition of a T shaped yolk. It's in Everett but could be here in a couple days if people wanted to work on it.

I was IMing one of the organizers this morning to find out. She asked me to spread the rumors.

I just got this email, I'll pass it on.
'No Rules' = bike trailer?
At the very least, I'll be there with my camera.

Hey, all, I heard a rumor that it is time for the second annual Seattle
Idiotarod! And when I asked the official people they said it was true. If
you were there last year you know how rewarding this grueling race of wit
and stamina can be. If you weren't there last year then you are lame.
This year's event will be held on Saturday March 31st at an undisclosed
location, starting at 11am. Team captains need to register online to get
the starting point information.
What is this idiotarod you ask? Only the most exciting and challenging
annual shopping cart mushing race to be heard of.
What you need to know:
This activity is not an organized event by any means, there are no
responsible parties for this event. The prizes at the finish line are for
best costume/theme and for the first to get there. Two checkpoints are
required for twenty minutes each, the locations of these checkpoints to be
given to the team captain. There are no rules to this event since it is not
a sanctioned event. BUT, the prizes will be awarded to those who follow the
suggested rules. You should be the owner of the shopping cart you use
(meaning it is not recommended to steal one from an establishment), and the
team should consist of five individuals, dressed in costume. For the full
details visit the website (which will be fully operational sometime this
week.) www.seattleidiotarod.com The website still has the 2006 race information but you can still use the sign up page to register for this years race.
If you don't have a team of five but would still like to volunteer or need
help finding a team then please email me, I will get you in contact with the
right person. email: skidiva@hotmail.com
Please forward on to everyone you know so this year's Idiotarod will be even
bigger then last years! (Last year was approximate 100 ppl!)

New official rule posted on the website says no bikes, roller skates, etc pulling carts. Also, apparently fighting will get you disqualified this year. Your team and mine (Village Idiots) would have been booted for that one last year.

eh. I'm entirely less excited to do this now. Running is for suckers. I'm more than happy to pass the Shopping Cart of Doom on to anyone who wants it. It has wheels that are way faster than shopping cart wheels.

anybody have this year's footage or know the organizers?
-----------------------
Dear Chris
We recently stumbled onto Matt Silvie's news story New York Idiocy Invades Seattle at The Seattlest Web Site. Matt suggested that we contact you for some footage of The Seattle Urban Idiotarod event. We would like to request permission to obtain and use your footage of this wacky event.
We're currently doing a no-budget/labor-of-love mockumentary on shopping carts and these events would fit with the rest of our footage perfectly!
We can only offer you film credit[s], web site mentions and a heartfelt thank-you as we really don't have a budget, investors, actors or anything else for that matter. But we are determined and sincere and hopefully that will garner our film notoriety, an audience and acceptance into film festivals and more importantly, a "cult" audience.
We just secured footage of both The Brooklyn Idiotarod as well as The Chididerod and we just know that these guys will DEFINITELY have some edgy, insane and entertaining footage that we can use in our crazy little film.
We are very much looking forward to hearing from you Chris. Feel free to call me and we can discuss any questions you might have for us.
Sounds like they might want last years footage. It is a mockumentry.

No cart was cooler than ours, when we (probably) made history with the first shopping cart to sport an aero spoiler. And, judging by how we ran circles around the competition, we probably put it to good use.
