Remember going to see the band I played in, Orkestar Zirconium, last spring? Remember this local troupe of miscreants known as the Infernal Noise Brigaide? Tchung! ? Remember that guy Owen who came out to the 24hr Bike Ride and a few Tues/Thurs rides?
We're both in a new project with people from those groups. It is in a similar style as to Orkestar, except we don't have a Phd Clarinet player or a stay-at-home trumpet player writing/transposing all our music.
We need more folks. Right now there are 4 percussionists (snare, bass, cymbals, tenor drums) a tuba (owen), a trombone (me) and a trumpet. We want to be a 12-piece or so, and play funky world party music in a mobile style. Want to come play with us, or just check it out? We are practicing on Wednesdays at 8, and are working hard on getting together some actual WRITTEN music so that we can get to having real fun gigging by the end of spring or so.
You'd need to be somewhat experienced on your instrument of choice, be mobile, ie not needing a 250lb amp, and amenable to a bunch of lefty bikers, punks and engineering dorks who want to have fun as band, not necessarily become world famous.
Brass, woodwinds that can play loud (sorry, oboists of the world), mobile string players, drummers, etc are all encouraged to check us out. If you can't/won't/don't but can recommend someone who might be interested, that's cool. Once a week rehearsals with an occasional Sunday thrown in is all the commitment we're looking for. Influences such as Banga, Balkan, Middle Eastern wedding music, Meringue, Salsa, etc.

In June, I swear, if you need a french hornist or trumpet player, I'm there! Just too busy right now.

we're going to be working through a bunch of http://www.dunav.org.il/music_scores/ "standards" , and devising ways to work in harmony, etc. It will take a bit of creativity and work from everyone involved to get parts that they can read, although I know a few people *henry cough cough* who are ace music nerds and can help teach transposition.[/url]

Yes, come play in our band. Beer consumption is an important element of our rehearsals, and I'm sure that you all know how to consume beer.
