from my inbox:

Aaron,

I want pass on information for an event you may be interested in:

Vintage Bicycle Enthusiasts (VBE) is excited to announce a special event planned for Saturday, March 24th, the day before the Kent Swap Meet.

Leon Dixon, curator of the National Bicycle History Archive of America and the man who coined the term Classic Bicycle, has made the generous offer to give us a presentation from his Classic Bicycle slide and video Collection.

Leon defined this hobby in print and in action before anyone else was drawn to collecting and preserving the history of Post 1900 American Bicycles. Beyond his extensive Collection of bicycles and the world's largest library of original classic bicycle literature - over 50,000 catalogues, photos and books - Leon has personally known and interviewed many of the people behind the design and construction of the bicycles we collect.

The presentation will consist of slides and video from the early days of Classic Collecting up to the present; including Leon's seminal 1970's BDS Expo dealer presentation, an original Ingo-Bike newsreel, the original Bowden Movie, and bicycle safety films from the 1930's-50's. This material has not been publicly shown since the Balloonatic events held in Los Angeles in the early 90's and is comprised of many rare and one-of-a-kind items and images that do not exist anywhere else on the planet.

We have booked a room at the Northgate branch of the Seattle Public Library from
3:00 pm to 5:00 pm and have room for 45-50 people. While we don't want to turn anyone away, space is extremely limited and half the seats are already taken. The remaining seats will be held on a first-come, first served basis, and can be reserved by e-mailing Phil and Laurie Blau-Marshall at vbephil@earthlink.net or calling us at 206 363-3373

This presentation has been offered to us free of charge as a fund raiser for the 2007 Vintage Bicycle Concours at LeMay and any money raised will go toward providing awards and trophies at that event. While the Seattle Library does not allow us to charge for this presentation, we will have a cookie jar in our booth at the Kent Swap to collect a $10.00 suggested donation for the event.

Thank you,

Phil

Langston, are you at a safety meeting?

Next Sunday is the swap meet, the presentation is next Saturday.
Last year PJ Diddy and I rode out there and back.

Anyone want to meet up at 7 AM at my shop (I live above it)? I am riding there and should be there by 8 AM, or earlier. Swap Meet deals go down early. The meet officially opens at 8 AM. You will see some stuff you have never seen before. A lot of rusty stuff. There is an increasing number of light weight vintage (Campy, Huret, Zeus, etc) road bike stuff every year. Every year that stuff gets older, eh?

I won't be riding there, but I will be riding back. If anyone cares!
