Last weekend's loop of lake washington was great! I plan on heading out to get some miles in again , but don't have anyone to ride with. Any takers on a regular weekend ride? Like a mercer island loop, or lake washington loop, or port townsend, or etc., changing every weekend, as opposed to keeping in the city and bar/park-hopping?
The weeknight rides just don't work as well for me now that work season has picked up and I actually have to be on time for the 9am meetings each day. Not to mention they're a little thin on the miles if you're thinking about Portland.
Any takers? I think this would be awesome. Oh! And leaving at a reasonable weekend hour like noon! And meeting up at a centralized location like Westlake.

These are always fun and good exercise. I'm typically too busy to commit to every weekend for these sorts of rides, but I'm down to catch them when I can.

I'm almost to the point where I'm able to do greater than 25 mile rides. I've done several sunday rides so far (BIKE GANG) but those are designed to be easy. If you come up with something like the mercer island loop or some other idea I can probably find few people who are interested and able to complete 25-50 miles without fucking dying.

I wouldn't turn down 25-50 mile rides, but I get that much in most weekdays after work just cruising around. I was thinking something more like 60-100+ miles.
Maybe we can do this just like any other .83 ride and say meet Saturdays at noon at Westlake and decide for certain when we get there? I guess I just want to hear that other people might occasionally show up too. I don't want it to end up just being me awkwardly riding along with like one random strange creepy guy that I don't really know.
Anyone else think they might come down for a ride sometiems?

I usually do a 50-100 mile solo loop on the weekends, it would be great to have some people to ride with.
I'm only kinda creepy.

I'm interested, but more in the 60mile ride rather than 100 (for now). If someone picks a route a head of time then I'll know if I should show up or not. There is also Cascade's CTS Rides that started this past weekend.

It is good to know where the CTS rides are and not ride where they are or have been. CTS rides average about a 100+ riders in four different pace groups. After CTS has been through a particular area anti-cycling locals can be very aggravated. I would recommend riding where they aren't!

I agree about avoiding cascade rides. Plus, I don't wear a helmet so I'm not allowed with them anyways, even if I wanted to.
And that sounds great to pick beforehand, but I'm not the person to do that job. I don't know of any particularly good routes or anything and I would be riding off maps and guesswork once we get out of the immediate city. So if a specific route is required, someone else will have to do the navigating/that work for me.
I'm not trying to be a route organizer like navigator gbarnes, I just want to ride. Although I am certainly not opposed to someone else navigating/team-leading.
So any ideas where we can go this weekend? I mean, from someone who will show up and actually know the route?

Uh-oh, I've been name-checked. But I'm pretty sure I'm booked on weekends to either help train slower riders than you for STP, or to watch kids for same. Hence my Thursday riding.
The classic 60-100 mile route around here is (duh) around the Lake. Cue sheets are easy to find for this one. You can also easily find cue sheets to head south on the STP route, or north on the RSVP route. The north route to Snohomish isn't a bad idea, since there are a couple of good ways there, so you don't have to just turn around and retrace your steps.
Eastward, there are a number of organized rides like Flying Wheels where you could also steal the route. Westward, you take a ferry. Down to Fauntleroy from Westlake and around Vashon Island is probably a good 50ish route that you can stretch if the hills don't tire you out sufficiently (STP is not hilly). See if you can find a used copy of Bicycling the Backroads of Puget Sound/Western Washington for other ideas. Or just ask me and I'll loan you mine.
My STP training group has a set schedule, which unfortunately involves a lot of organized rides where you have to, for example, be in downtown Mount Vernon at 7am. Ignoring those, the schedule goes something like this:
Ride up the Burke-Gilman/Sammamish River until you're halfway tired, then turn around and go back (30-40 miles).
Ride from the north end to Alki and back (36 miles)
Gasworks to Fauntleroy, around Vashon (50 miles)
Around the Lake (60 miles)
Whidbey Island (60 miles) [must drive there first, I guess]
STP route to Algona and back (60 miles)
North end to Issaquah (around north end of the lake, I believe) (70 miles)
Also, Langston's route to Edmonds/Brier/Bothell isn't bad, once you take out the pointless hills and the looking for rubbed out words in the pavement.
Hmmm. Suddenly I have some ideas on what to do for future Thursdays.

Count me in for these rides. Also, if I may suggest a route, the interurban trail south to Algona, then to Puyallup is a good 75 miles or so (I think). It's not a very demanding ride, but it does cover a lot of ground in a short time.

Earlier I was going to suggest one of the ones listed above. I forgot that it was called flying wheels, but a purdy ride through the Carnation valley area and then up Cherry Valley Road could be good.
Are most people thinking Sunday, or Sat? I just got a call from my bro w/ a torn ACL that he needs help moving Saturday. So I vote for Sunday.

So where were you? I stood a lone soldier in westlake in the rain for thirty minutes. Soaked and defeated, I am going to the gym to get in 60 miles.

I just checked Google Maps and it was technically Kent. We had a nice headwind on the way down, but coming home was pretty good.
After the group split up, on Eastlake, I had a hick in a pickup saying stuff at me with his loudspeaker thing. I couldn't really understand what he was saying, but I imagine it was some sort of insult.

Well by what metric? Less direct I suppose but man way more interesteing that straight and as arrow interurban trail, it's good you guys got to ride both of them for comparison though. In fact with the head wind you probably took them in the right order.
We had plenty of CB's and PA in trucks out in Deming, a few too many rebel flags as well.
