I thought stickies were for up coming events, yet many do not get stuck. The ROS thread should have been stuck long ago as well as the swap meet threads.

Here is the latest info:

This is to remind you of our first and probably only organizational meeting for the 2007 Ride of Silence that will begin at 630 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2007. We are starting the meeting this Tuesday at 7 p.m. sharp. We will discuss:

- The revised proposed route
- Volunteer responsibilities before and on the day of the ride
- Corresponding with political leaders at the federal, state, county and city levels.
- Getting press
- Posting announcements at bike shops and other places
- Police cooperation
- Open mike

The meeting should end no later than 830 p.m. I hope to see many of you. If you have already told me that you are not coming but are willing to help out, please do not respond again.

Driving Directions to CBC Office

By bicycle
Southbound From Burke-Gilman Trail, turn left on 77th (by the tennis courts). Right onto Sand Point Way NE, left into Warren G. Magnuson Park at the light (7400 block).
Northbound from the Burke Gilman Trail, turn right on 70th, left onto Sand Point Way, right into Sand Point Magnuson Park at the light (7400 block).
By bus
Take Route #74 or #75
By car, from I-5
Take the NE 45th St. Exit, head east on NE 45th St. about 4.5 miles where 45th becomes Sand Point Way NE. Continue along Sand Point Way NE to the 7400 block, take a right at the light into Warren G. Magnuson Park.
By car, from Hwy 520
Take the Montlake exit, head north on Montlake Blvd. past UW. Following arterial to the right, Montlake becomes 45th and then becomes Sand Point Way. Turn right at the light into Warren G. Magnuson Park (7400 block).

Sticky Picky, sorry to complain more admins but could the sticky posts be ordered by date?

A calendar seems appropriate as well, especially with summer coming up but then again I have seen too many calendars that only have 3 events on them all year so I never check. I guess making ones own calendar is better if you know what you want to do and when things are coming up.

I hate to point out that I'm not cool because clearly all of you are. But Aaron, you didn't mention what the ride of silence is in your post? Some of us uncool kids (or maybe just me) have never heard of this. What's it for? Bicycle-related?

Last year a bunch of you guys went on this and complained BITTERLY afterward.

Save us the bother and don't go if you don't want to ride single file, in silence, surrounded by tard-barges in sausage outfits.

Also... calendar ... Lee and Derrick, do you guys want to meet for 30 minutes before the ride on thursday to discuss this? I suppose we could do so at the Whiskey Bar.

no, but for real, i think the same point was made last year by many people smarter and more eloquent than myself that being silent is not noticed at all by people in automobiles. they can't hear us anyways.

there are a lot of people who don't know what critical mass is, even though that crew whoops and hollers and tells everyone their name. a bunch of people silently obeying the law in 30 different chunks with no visual cues to tie them together really isn't the best way to get a point across. wear all white, wear all black, etc etc. it's much more likely to make people that there's actually something going on here and maybe be curious enough to figure it out when they (finally!!!) get home

although tacomadude in his van will probably give us props for being "on messsage" and only yell for half as long

holy christ alive is that ever a slow nerve jarring ride

is it wrong that i just got home with a strong beer buzz from the ride of silence?

trevor, me, dashap, ro, and (shit sorry i forgot your name!) showed up from our group. by the time we hit eastlake (2 miles) i had to stop for beer and cream cheese bagels. i was that asshole blowing stoplights and splitting lanes by downtown, i just couldnt take it any longer. i pulled up and gathered the troops for a sidewalk beer stop in belltown. we made a few friends there with PBR handouts. Ro couldnt take it downtown and was hitting a car that almost clipped him.

it was nice and quiet, we drank beers. a girl pulled up at one point and gave us the "oh you guys must be the point83 people ive heard about" and had a drink with us

overall, it was slow, it was quiet. not sure if it made any noticeable point to any motorists really, even with the proper red light stopping and single fileness. but i needed to head out for a spin on a wednesday and it fit the bill nicely.

mmmm pbr.

Holy crap is right.

I can feel the underlying desire to pay respect to those cyclists that have been hit by cagers, but that ride was seriously painfull in the boring and uneventful sense. I looked for those who didn't seem to be members of some proper cycling group, but didn't end up finding any .83 folks (I've never met any of you in person).

I introduced myself to one older chap who didn't fit the jerseyed, club member mould. Turns out he is friends with a few other bikers I know. We finished the ride, and ended up sinking a few pints at the P.I. afterwards. He is a likely candidate to drag out to 'mass next time.

Anyway, I'm Jeff and I work at a belltown biotech company. I found this site after getting hit last month and becoming posessed with an overwhelming desire to find local, like-minded cyclists to drink beer with.

skipped it this year. If I'm going to go parade with the wannabes, I want to have some fun doing it, and not have a embolism from sitting through empty intersection waiting on a light bulb.

Last year was ok, in that I brought my dad and my boss and got them both very stoned beforehand. Otherwise, I had a crap time. A crap time, that is, until we got dropped with mechanical issues. This event is more about feeling good about yourself on a bike than making any statement.

As my first ROS, I can say I wasn't impressed all that much. Even though there were folks obviously part or some organized ROS group directing the riders, I fwwl like the point was completly missed by the masses. Will I do it next year...eh, well see. Not corking intersections (especially downtown) seems like an accident waiting to happen.

I agree with Dashaps wright up that when I finally go, i'd like a loud. altered party that at least makes folks notice that something important is happening.

Someone in the ROS group took my pic...I sure hope I can find it.
