I really hope the group goes to Seattle Center again!

My little girl-sized-brain is confused- how exactly is this relevant? I'm pretty sure we're in Seattle, Washington.

The common denominator is Critical Mass. If the police in NYC can crack down, what makes you think the SPD can't try the same shit?

because the cops of nyc have been fighting pretty intensely with critical mass for the last three years? meanwhile, spd's been relatively polite with the exception of two? arrests that i can think of, both on cap hill.

I'm sorry. Perhaps I should have posted about deep fried food. That seems more relevant.
My bad.
Here's a picture of a deep-fried Halloween costume to get us back on track.

The stuff going on in New York is very relevant. Just because Seattle CM has a good relationship with the police now doesn't mean that it couldn't sour in the future. From what I've seen, NYC police had no trouble with CM until the 04 republican convention. What if there's something, like the WTC, here and CM just happens to be at Westlake? Another repeat of this? We may have freedom of speech, but there are no guarantees on where or how.

Who want's to get shitty before Critical Mass?
I'll give you a hint ... I DO.
If it's still nice i'm thinking beers and safety down by the water might be in order.

Anyone that wants to get their prefunk on ... i'll be drinking beers and getting safe at my place (summit and howell, across from clever dunne's) and you're invited. Or i'd be happy to go to a fun outdoor location that you suggest.

Kinda an interesting contrast... on the east coast all the cyclists stick together and the police hate them... on the west coast the police like cyclists and cyclists have a small class war going on.
just kinda interesting....

I don't think you can separate the history that easily. The continued harassment by the NYC cops of CM appears to have created an 'us' vs. 'them' mentality among NYC cyclists. As it is, the 5BBC letter still seems somewhat standoffish to CM. But couple the harassment with the ridiculous law they passed (every ride with over 50 riders is a 'danger to health and safety' and requires a permit), and I don't think there's a bicycle club in the country that wouldn't sue.

I'm sure the same thing could happen here in Seattle. If you hear that a law like that actually is proposed or passed in Seattle, you want to let us know? Because that would be relevant.
P.S. Yes, I know I am being very grumpy.

The police will do what ever the fuck they want. We can only punish them after the fact in the courts.
The NYC police rule is totally unconstitutional. It will not stand.
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The amazing thing is how dumb the police think people are. I guess people don't know their rights. Still it is scary. Last night I didn't see any police. Anyone know what happened to the driver that crunched that fellow's wheel?
And for the record, Bike Hugger is cool by me. DL Byron and I may not agree on some things, but we both respect each other and are working toward the same goal of getting more folks on bikes. He is cool.

Looks like the police were pretty laid back (for NYC), despite all the threats.
