Greg's on KUOW right now talking about why he's too much of a wuss to ride his bike to work. Someone just challenged him to ride his bike to work 15 times this year. He said he wouldn't.
But he did mention he had in the past and that he rode with the owner of a certain West Seattle bike store .... developing.

David Hiller is on the air. One thing that suprised me was the idea/plan to build a bike/pedestrian bridge across the ship canal into Ballard. That's pretty cool and totally needed.
Also, only 1% of Seattlites ride to work. Sad.

Hiller needed to go HARDER after the dude that called cyclists "freeloaders". Not only do we pay for Seattle's roads via property taxes and sales taxes (which Hiller pointed out), but we do essentially ZERO DAMAGE to the roads we pay for (which Hiller did NOT point out).

Sheldon "the world's biggest pussy" just weighed in. He doesn't ride bikes in Seattle because it's hilly. He proposed a "bike tow" option.

I was looking into the long-term plans for overpasses and such and found one riculous proposal; an overpass of I-5 near Northgate. There are overpasses every 10 blocks at that part of town and any of them could be better utilized to include a bike lane, for way less the cost of building a new overpass. The two I have in mind are the overpass on 95th (?) that goes right in front of NSCC, and the overpass at 115th-ish that goes over the freeway towards the Haller Lake region (and eventually, towards the Interurban...link!)

i agree that the ballard path would be awesome, if so expensive as to be improbable. i-5 overpasses on the north end seem redundant, let's get some more on the south end first, and slap a bike lane on 95th like langston says.

That whole "Beacon Hill" thing makes over/underpasses significantly more difficult. Our ride through "The Jungle" the other week was enlightening, it could be very easily turned into a burke gilman-esque travel corridor leading as far south as S. Corson, where it would/could intersect with the Utility corridor heading Eastish to that new bike trail they built in. There is going to be an inevitable 1st Ave/4th Ave bike lane for pure south-bound transport, but the "Jungle Plan" would appease heavy industry's dread of bikes on Airport.

Here is me and my boyfriend, Greg.
He has put on some pounds since I rode with him. He is afraid to ride to work. When he rode with me, 2 bike cops escorted us.
I rode with him from my shop to downtown and pointed out all the problems with the commute and how they could be improved. I think I need to ride with him again.
I think he is doing a pretty good job considering that big business, road interests, car drivers, etc, have most of the power and influence in politics. Don't forget that Greg said Seattle would obey the Koyoto Protocol. He was the one behind the meeting of 300 mayors. Too bad he is distracted by the stupid viaduct problem. It did piss me off then he withdrew support for the monorail. Cars still rule.

Nickels talks a good game, but he's done very little over the past six years to actually build up bicycling infrastructure. The extension of the BGT to Golden Gardens, for instance, should've been a no-brainer, yet it is still being "studied".
And frankly his pet-project streetcar tracks piss the hell out of me as I try to ride through South Lake Union!

Just remember, your no brainer is someone else's "I don't give a fuck." I'm perfectly happy with the status of the trail between Gasworks and Golden Gardens. IMHO the places where we really need improvement are places that bicycles can't go and don't have a convenient alternative, like the 520 bridge.
