I understand that since there is an element of competition with some prizes they want the rules well defined and the definition of only counting to work-and-back mile makes sense. But it would be nice if the competition was designed to encourage more integrated trips: exercise, commute, errand...
I remember and interesting trip estimation algorithm from a Traffic Engineering class. It computed the average weekly cars trips for an individual based on something like 8 variables, one of the variables was "commutes by bike, yes or no" Indicating "yes" resulting in more estimated car trips. I guess the information they had to work with suggested that bike commuters were more active and made other more frequent trips by car. I suppose this was in contrast to some one driving straight to work them home and turning the TV on each day.
But regardless I think the Challenge does get more people out riding, I know I can always get a few co-workers to do it and they will often do well over the minimum, more like 2-3 trips per week. But then after the competition they don't seem to bothe which is too bad.

I like you all, but I'm forming my own team damn it. Mostly because I use the leverage to kick my lazy coworkers into biking into work. Plus, if I'm captain I get one of those oh so snazzy shirts!
I'd like for bike to work month include a side competition that allows you to include other trips that you've used a bike to replace a car with.

fuc...good luck with that. Do tell how it goes!
My co-workers are so lazy they'd rather be kicked...it's not called Cingular roll over for nothing!

You're right actually. I live in my pubes and I work at the tip. So, since my commute actually does equal the length of my cock, your joke is eerily correct.
But yes. This is *far* too much information.

I'm doing about 90-100 miles per week to and from work (do only work miles count?), if one of y'all wants another team member.

Well Miles, extrapolating from the given geographic data, I do believe I live somewhere on your balls.

I think we'll make a full ten members at my work this year. Two of them from last year actually continued to commute all through the fall and winter. I was impressed.

The sleeves were way too short on those for me. About two inches away from my wrist, and I don't even have long arms.

Mine also, once I put it through the drier once. I'm going to try to hand-wash this year's and see if it still shrinks.
The waterbottle's logo wore off in about a week last year, while we're complaining about free stuff.

Let's not overlook how craptacular the creamy orange clif recovery mix was. I did like the free first aid pouches though. I've even used it!

Miles, I suggest you, me, and other tiny-sized commuters form a team. I'll be the captain. We'll clean up on the number of commutes, and yet come in DFL on miles (not Miles, miles).
My commute is a whopping 2.7 miles one way. Adam, you want to join? Anyone else with a < 3 mile one-way commute?

So is there a team yet that I can join?
gsbarnes: My commute is either just over 3 miles (Montlake to my house in Roosevelt) or 22 miles (Redmond to Roosevelt over I90), it just depends on my mood. The in between 10 mile option wins most days.

I think mine tops out at 1.8mi each way, but sometimes I ride in circles just to round it off to a full 2. If for some reason my team last year fails to come through I'll let you know.

i've signed up miles, trevor, and joe. ya'll should have gotten an email i think, if not hit me up at lant@lantius.org and i'll fill you in on the details.
i'd encourage other people to make their own teams as well. each team captain gets an invite for themselves plus a guest for free beer at the pike brewery on thursday the 10th...
if nobody steps up though i'm happy to have another six folks on my team.

I ride about 12 miles 4 times a week. Though I can botch it and go the long way and log in more maybe?
Who wants me on their team?
