It only added 10-12 minutes to my commute to go around montlake to health sciences... oddly enough the ride was so much nicer I may just start going that way...

I keep waiting to hear a thumping of the bridge collapsing but so far no luck...

If only the Ballard bridge would collapse and they would re built with solutions to its bike/ped "issues"

The bridge is out, maybe we can get the water taxi over there to ferry people to and fro?

Funny, I used to ride around to the University Bridge to avoid the (much more direct for me) Montlake bridge.

These days I'm lazy and take Montlake again. I guess the crowd will be bigger today.

The cops were re-directing traffic up as far as harvard so I couldn't get close enough to see anything. I was hoping I'd be able to take a right on Furhman there. My water was brown /again/ this morning. Unfortunately I didn't know it until I was already in the shower and my wife filled up the sink :/

It's fascinating the concern the news guys have for the two cars that were swallowed by the sink hole. Quote "hopefully they can get the water turned off and get those cars rescued" unquote.

Damn, I got lucky -- I crossed the University Bridge only 20 minutes prior to its closing. Good thing I didn't stop for a bagel first today.

sweet.

let me tell you, between that being closed and a huge amount of construction on 45th through wallingford, car traffic in the u-district is "teh awesome".

leaving work yesterday was the worst car traffic i've ever seen in the u-district, husky games and dorm move-in included.

Watch out for dangerous bicycle commuters.

That's Dan Savage! In other posts he talks about riding his bike around. I'm pretty sure he's on "our side".

I think he may be referring sarcastically to articles like http://crosscut.com/transportation/2636/ and to comments in the P-I blogs where someone inevitably will complain about "dangerous" cyclists not coming to a complete stop to make sure they don't hit pedos and who weave through traffic. Those dangerous cyclists. They cut to the front of the line, look both ways, and run stop signs if there's no cars coming!
