So yesterday was my birthday, I meant to post but got distracted by shiny objects.
Saturday, Cinco de Mayo, I'll be doing some grilling and swilling margaritas and beer in celebration. All three of you that aren't headed to Ben Country v2.0 are more than welcome to drop by for 5 minutes or 5 hours.
There will be children present [1], so feel free to bring some if you have any.

Where is this sudden fascination with footnotes coming from? There's barely a post by zuvembi without them in the last few days.

Footnotes are for asides that don't clutter up the main text. Many people use parentheticals, some people use footnotes (or endnotes, depending on what you fancy). I think I picked them up from reading so much David Foster Wallace.

Hey, only about half my posts. Still, you're right I do tend to use them a lot. At least I didn't do nested ones. Yet.

I'd like to jump on board here and recommend Infinite Jest as the literally best published volume of all time. If you have a free month (or two), it will change the way you think about words. There's also extensive (read:gratuitous) if slightly incorrect reference to the more obscure corners of pure mathematics and chemistry, in case you were worried you'd have nothing to geek out over while reading 900 pages of fiction.
This will give you some indication of just how wonderful the adventure can be. Ignore the spoiler warnings, it actually helps to know that stuff the first time through.
There is a direct correlation between finishing this novel and the end of your obsession with shit-dipped fireworks (or whatever else you people do whe you're not riding); consider yourself warned.
