in the last week: 3,355 visits, 36,935 pageviews, 1,033 uniques. we do a significant amount of traffic, of course almost all of it is in the forums.

I love that we generate exponentially more traffic than the dotcom I was working for last month.

Drill down to get info on the referring domain, and you can see the page that generated the referral.

yep, and the page is "showthread.php". oh, http post, why must you deprive me of exposed internal data and one-url-one-page semantics?

Is it time to start adding google ad-words to the site and divert the funds to a group beer fund? Maybe only expose it to those who haven't logged in? ;)

I think I can live with that. I wonder how much we would make? Theoretically, the ads would be most useful in Wrenches and Gears, unless of course, you're looking for corndogs or horsecock or whatever other crap we all ramble about in Westlake Center... maybe some heavy water too?

having a few small google ads show up when you aren't logged in isnt a bad idea. im on a few other forums that do that. not sure how much money it would bring in, but i just signed up for it to try it out

if no one minds, if it makes any money, id just want to skim the price of the yearly domain and web hosting off the top, i always pay for that out of pocket. anything after that can go to beer, stupid human tricks, or whatever else.

oh no. did i just open the floodgates for a group bank account? oh noes.
it probably wont make anything anyways.

I'm for it simply because I want to see what the adwords it comes up for some of the threads. Really, what ads come up for horsecock?

Compensating for hosting off the top sounds totally reasonable.

You should definitely be comped for any expenses you incur maintaining the site, but who decides what happens to the rest?

the hosting and domain arent that much. around 50 a year. so if anything comes in up and beyond that, we'll figure out something to do with it. perhaps covering the barbill on the yearly thanksgiving anniversery ride? prizes for races? (greenlake!)... or maybe a bbq ride in the summer sometime?

speaking of greenlake race, just a reminder, if anyone has any good extra bike type items that they'd be into donating, you can give them to me anytime. im just about done with the pedros prizes so any good quality stuff that you dont want will get redistributed as greenlake giveaways.

I say anything over the hosting costs (which, honestly, they should be paying US to use this bullshit host) should be donated to the North American Hummer Rescue Association.

i signed up for google adwords today. i was just quickly experimenting with it, and have it in the footers of all the pages on the forum now.

i might keep it there, and also in an obtrusive place for people not logged into the forums. once you log in it will vanish. i gotta yell at lee for the help with the placement in the templates on that one

(let me know when you have a few spare minutes to yammer about that lee)

I'll pay $100 per year plus brew at least 10 gallons of beer per year just for .83 to keep advertising off of the forums.

I hate ad supported stuff.

alex's offer is approximately 10,000 times what i expect we'd make from adwords, i recommend we take it.

It seems like it might be good incentive for some of our regular lurkers to register, and maybe contribute.

But honestly, i'm more concerned with getting some new functionality going on this rotten ghetto of the internet.

How does it create an incentive to register? The ads are showing up for members too. It was the first thing that I noticed when I logged in this afternoon.

it's just on the footer right now because i was setting it up. i'll switch it over so that you only see the ads when you are NOT logged in, when logged in they will all vanish.

just fooling around with them, it isn't going to turn into x10.com or anything. i might even dump them all together if you get me a ten percent down payment on that beer (1 gallon!)

I just saw an add for a Honda, now I'm sorry I even suggested them. Honestly, I'd rather pay directly into a group beer fund and cover hosting costs than have everyone be forced to see ads.

Do you like barleywine?

Otherwise I need to brew another batch. Anyone want to brew a 1.083 OG beer? (that would be around 8-9% alcohol but more importantly it would be 1.083 OG).

Some styles that would work with this gravity: strong IPA, strong stout, scotch ale, bock

I'd say a scotch ale, or a bock: Easier to drink while riding without puking.

Okay, I'll come up with something yummy and may bring a few bottles of barleywine to crit mass.

Anyone who is interested in brewing is welcome to help. Probably the weekend after this one. It's all outdoors and a decent way to kill a few hours in the afternoon.

I am interested, I could stir, or strain or mash or whatever is involved in home brewing. Alas I will be in Bellingham all of Saturday June 2. I'll likely be back early Sunday though and could participate then, but pick a time that works for you first off.

Is June 2nd the lumberjack competition? Damn, I should go to that too.

My schedule is flexible. We'll figure out a time tomorrow at CM.

i hear there's a hack to get analytics to show you the full URLs, but i don't know how its done.

if you have access to your apache log file, you could run this command to get the full URL: 'cat /apachelogs/access.log | grep teamestrogen'

but maybe you already knew that...
