I want to play with my bar position and height. Does anyone have an adjustable angled stem for a 1 1/8" steerer and and 31.8 clamp? If no adjustable stem than perhaps one with a steep rise?

$30 new. I have an adjustable stem, but it is not road rideable. you could experiment on a trainer in the shop.

Translation:

ABR has adjustable stems for $30.

ABR also has a fitting stem which is not intended for actual riding which you can use to test different sizes and angles before buying on a trainer in the store.

Aaron is talking about two different stems.

Aaron has the Salsa fit stem that shop use for in-store bicycle fittings, you ride trainers typically, these are not for road/offroad use

These are way more than 30$ too

The 30$ stem he has for sale is probably the Kalloy

MikeOD has used these, sometime the stems don't lock verywell and seem to have play, i can't remember if mike though the ritchey stem was better.

Sometimes your existing cable housing lengths will interfere with trying too radical of different positions.

Aha. So much clearer, thank you both. I was hopping to avoid buying new if I had to, but $30 is cheap enough for an experiment if recycled doesn't have anything in one of their bins. I only plan to use it until I decide how much more (if any) rise I want. I think I've got sufficient slack in the housing to allow enough adjustment to play around.

The salsa fit stem is cool, but my experience with fitting so far has been that my body needs miles on the actual road to decide what is really comfortable.

I thought my explanation was clear. $30 is the normal price for a stem.

I also have a bin of used stem for $13.

Either way, you need to try it out.

The Ritchey is much more solid, no wiggle like other adjustable stems usually have, but harder to adjust the angle - you have to back out 3 bolts. Anyway, I don't have one with a 31.8 clamp.
