Uphill Sprints, Grape Apes, Cops & Robbersm etc. As recently as last summer there was at least one fun race (and I'm not talking fun-rides...yawn) per month.

Where I normally look for these things; cranked, mobius, morrispost, etc, are pulling blanks. There are a couple of film festivals on the map but otherwise the 7/7/07 race is IT.

WTF people?

Wow, no doubt. Looks like my DFL title is secure for the time being.

I was thinking the same thing. I think maybe there were just too few people doing it and they got burned out (burnt out?). Last year sure was the year of the alley cat.

We are too busy planning camping trips, all the fixed gears are collecting dust while we ride our touring bikes.

but I hear there is this race around green lake on friday night.

Seriously though, last year was a bit over kill. I am a bit particular about how I choose to spend my weekends and 5-15$ on entry fees. I don't need a race every weekend. Interesting races and decent swag have more pull in my book.

I threw 8-9 races last year, It was a lot of work, getting prizes and all.

I'm lacking the time to get shit together with the boat, but I do have a great race ready to go, just need some prizes and time. Maybe late summer.

you should do a boat vs. bicycle race. maybe along lake washington somehow? that would be hells of seattleish.

Hells yes, you could have it be a beat the bridge race, get a sailboat with a tall enough mast that warrants a bridge lifting. If the bikes are too late, too bad. I guess you can't really race around in the cut though.

Gasworks to Kirkland or something like that would be awesome.

Good boat routes and good bike routes are not the same. the 520 bridge pretty low on the west side so most sailboats have to go under it on the east, and the floating bridge highrises are pretty low too meaning you have to go on the east side of MI under the East Channel bridge .

we could start from the public boat launch on Alki, then race the boats back to Magnussen Park. The no-wake restrictions in the cut, he delays of the locks and all the bridges would negate the advantage of being able to take the more direct route.

We took a group through the locks last week, Jason posted http://velograph.net/ here.

Really, bike vs boat, I'd put my money on the bikes.

Timely question, Langston, for me, anyway, because I was thinking of posting--as I'm doing right here--to get a sense of whether people would be willing to have a Thursday night ride commandeered by a race. (It seems a shame we have these events on the weekends that people can't/don't show up, too).

Anyway, the race I was thinking of organizing would be called (something like) The Taco Truck (and tequila) Time Trial. It would start at Westlake; racers would race (I think in 30 second staggered starts like a real time trial, but maybe concurrently) to the Rainier Taco truck. Fastest time(s) would have to eat a burrito and take a shot of tequila or two. The race would then recommence to the White Center Taco truck where fastest
time(s) would again have to do the burrito and tequila handicap. Then, the final part of the evening would be a short criterium around in White Center ending up at the Pacific Rim Brewery where pandemonium and prizes would ensue.
I was thinking Thursday June 28th. What say people? If I get the thumbs up, then I'll start doing some organizing.

well, anyways.

I've been reading blogs and people's sites and it seems that most of the people that were most passionate about alley cats and our little DIY race scene took their legs to race with the squids. That or moved on to whatever is "cool" this summer...

on a summer day you can count on the locks taking a couple of hours

Just a suggestion for race manifests for next years Fucking Hills Race: rite in the rain paper. Hells yeah. Also, maybe a not-so-hidden finish line, although, I'm not Totally against having an advantage at the end either. I'm sure that the third time's a charm for finding the finish.

Wow, great minds do think alike. I had been thinking that just such a race would be awesome, only in my mind it was called the "Tight Bunz Race"--tight buns being what you would need to survive in the race after consuming so much bar/taco truck without getting mud butt.

Sounds like a funckin induced disaster waiting to happen...i'd be all over that. Maybe have shots poured at timed intervals so the slower bitches have to drink more. This could even go north to the TT @ northgate and over the Maple leaf hill (just to be sadistic) and the shots could happen anywhere along the way (maybe The Jonses, right on top of the hill). Could start and stop at the CIP for beer, prises and mayhem (they're used to that for us aren't they?).

Great Race Idea Dave. I just don't think having a .83 race on a thursday would really get more people out to race. Thursday is for riding not racing.

Those of us that do not want to race could just ride straight to the brewery and warm up the place for the racers.

Still trying to figure out a few details, probably talk to Ito and Langston about how to go about it over the next few days. I'll post all the details soon - save the date, race in the day and get loaded at Shorty's at night!

Speaking of racing..... this is the first thing I've seen/heard about Lance that I've given a damn about in some time:

Good god, this sounds like a disaster! I’ll offer up a few crash kits for this.

There is a ton of construction around South Lake Union. If you keep an eye out you could probably score a sign to slow or stop the uphill traffic.

Don't misunderstand me, I THRIVE/CRAVE/EXIST FOR silly/absurd/crazy stuff (and "/"'s). I don't really feel like I can express it in this group much 'cos everybody's so busy feeling and/or acting "cool".

That said, "hells yeah" annoys the shit out of me. However, I wasn't directing my comments at YOU personally, Remington (hence: I didn't not quote your name in my quote of your quote). I didn't catch the irony of your usage, either.

SO, to wrap-up, people who use "hells yeah" ironically: fine, but it's difficult to detect in print. People who use "hells yeah" sincerely: you sound DUM.

Also: RACES (to keep this on-topic)
