So i've agreed to do the STP with my dad this year.
Problem is: he retired last fall and has all the time in the world to train. He's been doing lots of 70+ mile rides recently ... me? not so much.
So anyway i'll be trying to get some miles in on the weekends for the next couple of weeks, and possibly on Wednesdays as well.
So if anyone is interested y'know ... hit me up.
But immidiately i need some route advice. This Saturday i'll be going out to Fall City (I'm a proud Fall City Elementary Alum) to have a beer in one of the bars that formed the abstract vision of drunkeness that i had as a youth.
I'd like my route to look something like this:
route
But i'm a bit hairy on the Redmond to Monroe part, any suggestions?
Oh yeah, and pretend that i start and end in seattle, not fall city.

i did alot of rides on the burke while training for stp. seattle to marymoor and back is a solid 50 miles and is a nice car free ride. it's a good route to get warmed up on for longer miles and it's mostly flat.
ive been trying to get more miles in on the weekends too. ill join you for one of these training rides.

you can go right over Fall City Road from Lake Sammy, but I guess the miles is sort of the point. I'd do that, then come home through woodinville.

I was actually going to do Fall City or Snoqualamie this weekend too. If you don't mind bike paths the I-90 is a really easy way to get there, and there's 1 or 2 miles on a dirt road like to one to camp Ben

From Kenmore, near the Goodwill you can cut through a housing development and work your way over to HWY 12. That would take you as far as you want to go. I like this road, low traffic, there is a Safeway in Arlington where you can fuel up.

rattlesnake lake or 38 to the tunnel. perhaps more perhaps less.
come to think of it i'd like to put in close to the tunnel and ride the east side more, as i have never gone past that damn thing.

Yeah that would be nice, i have been on the west side a couple of times. I think the thing to do would be to park at hyak and ride the tunnel either at the beginning or end if the ride. It really is just a dark void...
I am interested, i will be heading south from bellingham on sunday in the early am, i would be up for car pooling if there is room.

saturday: i'm in, a+. sunday: not as much. anybody want to ride out that direction and camp on friday and then wait around for ben's slow ass to drive out?
also, henry, i think the plan is on 6/9 to ride to deming, so that'll get yer miles on, it's roughly a century. that's 80% the route i rode to bellingham, i took a left to head through mount vernon / burlington rather than continuing north on 9 towards sedro-wooley. should be pretty pleasant ride, if we leave early enough we'll be through the boring highway sections and onto the nice rural roads by mid-morning.

I would be interested in this ride as well, depending on the start time.
Keep me in mind?

iffn you kids are still interested.
i just talked to the lady and she says midday saturday. That's right, saturday, as in tommorrow, also commonly refered to as the day after today.
also note:
laura says to be nice and go slow or she'll kick you in the balls and won't be your friend
(unless you are henry, in which no one will ever kick, or threaten to kick, in the balls due to a difficult 5/31/07)

It looks like you are implying driving our bikes out 90 past north bend. If the time can be narrowed down I might be able to go and could even transport a few people and bikes via a trunk rack. Though I won't go unless Henry promises to not dress up like he's on a cascade ride.
