This one's a little different. Start at Green Lake at 4pm, stay out for 3, 7, or 16 hours. If you don't get all the checkpoints in 16 hours, hang your head in shame or realize that you're getting too damn old to pull an all-nighter.

Me, I already know I'm too old. I'm doing the 7 hour, as always. Needless to say, there will be no child-pulling on this one, but if that's your thing, you can rock the 3 hour division.

Note that if you do the 7 or 16 hour option, you have to pre-register, and for 16 hours they don't want you to solo. Or so they say; it's not clear this is strictly enforced.

I almost swept the course in the 7-hour Night and Day on Saturday. 49 checkpoints (out of 56), 2740 points (out of 3000). I went around 65 miles, and it would probably have taken a little over 7 more to get the other checkpoints.

Two bike teams got higher scores, but it took them 16 hours to do it. If only it didn't rain...

Anyway, the course was all north of Yesler, with most of the checkpoints north of the ship canal, but probably half of the points south. At one point, I was about a block from your place, Langston, but by then it was really starting to rain and I was still on a track to sweep them all, so I didn't feel like stopping.

I fell over twice (once on the wet, wooden railroad bridge north of the Locks, and once getting up onto the BGT from the UW motor pool parking lot). Also, when it rains in the summer, the Burke is really dark, and all the tree branches are about 1 foot lower. I got smacked in the face and head quite a few times (riding the Burke from Lake City down to U Village). Hooray for my helmet!
