tires. ben, i promptly forgot everything you said on saturday.

1) recommendations for 26 x 2.5" tires for dirt/trail riding?

2) 700x35-40 recommendations for touring?

WTB veliciraptors!!! best trail tire ever invented, flat out. they don't come in a 2.5 but unless you plan on doing downhill or clearing jumps you don't need a tire that wide. just slows you down.

The think the WTB weirwolf race 2.5 is about the most resonable thing that is not down hill heavy and still super fat. I have some hutchison spider 2.3's that are pretty light but I didn't have very good bite at tape worm when they were on the 1x1.

Panaracer Pasela 700x35. Cheap, good.

How wide are your 700C rims?

Hey Lee, I might have an old smoke/dart combo you can have... I'll look in the shed and email me after finals week is over. I think they're gone but I'll check.

I am really interested in the new Schwalbe marathon supreme for touring. I don't know anyone that has used it yet... but if it is anything like the plus it'd be a good tire.

WTB Velociraptors, do indeed rock. Only serious off road tire I sell!

WW 2.5 folding tires were the shizzle for DH a few years ago. I have a video of my friend Jason doing the 12'+ drop at Wistler on 'em.

As an old retro-mtb friend of mine once said, "It's not the tires."

who's bike are these for? caroline's. if so don't put on 2.5's.

i've always liked the conti explorer 2.1

or for lighter, all conditions the wtb allterrainasarus (or however the fuck you spell it).
it has a nice center ridge so i rolls real nice on hardpack and pavement.

my complaint about velociraptors is that they are too much knob and weight in heavier

hey, the lady wants big tires. i'm just doing the research?

they're dyads, 24mm wide i believe? i'm running 700x50 on them on the monkey, but the damn schwalbe big apples are so freaking heavy for a road tire. right now i've got the vittoria 700x32s on there but i think i'd like something a little bit wider without sacrificing so much weight.

Lets do a little more value engineering here.

currently we are at

"wants 2.5" tire"

but why, what does she want that 2.5" to provide? More cushion might be my guess.

Did the iron horse trail influence this? What size does she have now? I always found 2.1" to be ample, you can drop them to a lot lower pressure than feels natural especially if you have bene pumping up tires for use on the road frequently. My 1x1 with 2.3" K-rads felt bad untill I got them down to about 30psi I think on that trail, a pocket gage maybe a good idea.

Another question is if she can even clear a 2.5" on a cross county hardtail

I have had good luck with the Panaracer Fire XC Pro Tire, but that comes from me liking how they worked in wet/muddy conditions.

those things rock in the mud and loose pack dirt. on the road, they have huge amounts of drag. great tires to have if you are running multiple sets of rims.

35 or 37mm Paselas are good. I was going to recommend away from wide Paselas if you were running normal road width rims (under 20mm). On wider rims they are nice.
