could someone seriously explain the fucking pink "thing"
just in a few sentences, why.

cause it makes me goddamn scream at my monitor, and my neighbors are beginning to worry.

I think pink bikes give you a boner and you are afraid to admit it.

I believe the quote was:

"shut the fuck up. shut up, just shut the fuck up... shut.. up, fucking shut it. shut your goddamn hole, and shut up."

but I love knowing you annoy your neighbors, it makes my all warm and squishy inside.

Because it's funny. Like Caturday is funny, or C-level executives at company wide meetings are funny, or spandex warriors who complain about wildcat drafting on the burke gilman are funny, or our buddy shane is funny.

I'll trade you an explanation of pink for an explanation of dreads.

i was 18 years old and wanted to keep my long hair but was sick of all the maintenance and i needed a hiding spot for all my pot.

also note that my dreads came from a metal tradition ala al jorgensen, and not some peaced out, rastafarian, hippy, live off hemp and birkenstock sandle leather bullshit.

My first road bike that I bought from The Hub in Bellingham had pink handlebars on it. At first I thought nothing of it. But I would either get enthusiastic compliments or it would get made fun of. It sort of helped me tell who I would get along with early on. When that tape wore out, I put pink tape on it again and rode it to San Fran.

Then I got out of school, got a good job and decided to buy something expensive. I saw the pink bareknuckle at Counterbalance and I was like "fuck yeah".

Well put Bob.

I had no idea that pink bikes were as popular as they are when I bought mine. I bought it because I absolutely wanted to build a single-speed and at the time it was the only frame I could find that fit me. As I was walking out of Recycled this little kid said to me "boys aren't supposed to have pink bikes." That told me right there I was doing the right thing.

Now, whatever. It's just a color. I've certainly seen more atrocious bikes on the road.

Show and Tell!

On the topic of color, this is my grandma's light blue bike from when she was a girl. It's dirty from being in a barn for 60 years or so. Back then, blues were for girls and reds (including pink) were for boys.

I know! I like the skirt guard. I want to help it, but it lives in Idaho. I'm going to visit it in a couple of weeks.

I actually like the aging, i might overhaul the bearings and put new tires on but I like seeing dusty old bikes like this, the make cool cruisers I think.

I remember when I was a kid tripping over an old bike near a colapesd building on the farm, when I lifted it up I must have stirred up a bee's nest, got stung and high tailed it out of there. 15 years later I recalled and went back, the bees were gone, I hauled the bike, or what was left, out of the mud and grass, there is no seat or handle bars. a few shreds of tire. Totally rusty. Might have been "garbage" when it was parked not just forgotten.

There was an old lady that would trow her garbage in the back yard or in the creek and then when it would flood it would come down the creek by our place, I remember there being a bike tangled in with other debris deposited in a bend if the creek. People threw out some odd stuff, I remember climbing through one of the old gullys and finding a model T shell, and some cool radio vacuum tubes.

Hmm been rambling, better save the story about picking beans in Guatemala for another time.

You'd get a big wet woody over the cruiser I've got in que to restore for megan. 1950somthing Schwinn Traveller, 49cm, black, with a 3spd. Entirelly stock, I'm hoping to overhaul as much as possible to keep it that way.

It appears to be pre-war (WWII that is).

Inch Pitch chain and nice filet brazing. You can see how the paint is still nice on the brass filets. Nice bike. Quite valuable. Many girls bikes got parted out for parts to restore boys bikes. However, it is nice to fix up a girls bike.

I vote restoration. Give it to your daughter! After you ride it, of course.

For more info on old bikes, go to some swap meets. There are several a year.
