Contradictory? Hilarious, and highly encouraged, is more like it. It pisses off the few anal retentive Kaskade members, and amuses the rest, but they have NOTHING to complain about, since you're on the up-and-up!

Score! Count me in on that one then.
You know, once someone described the Ka$caders to me as 'spandex monkeys', and I will forever have this awesome image...

I so wanted to pirate the STP...but it interferes with my knyfe throwing...i mean, camping trip in sunny E-wa.
Enjoy the pavement..i'll drink lots of cold refreshing beverages in all your memories.

I had every intention of paying for it this year, but now I can't. Damn.
Anyway, i've got a spot in a car on the way home if anyone needs it. perhaps a spot for a bike too.
First Aid kit! Training Wheels might leave you to bleed to death in a ditch if you have not paid for their medical support team.

fuck them, i have been on tons of distance rides and have never needed medical attention. it's riding a bike, not juggling chainsaws.
thanks for the heads up though

The ambulance bill I got after FHR had no Cascade discount listed anywhere.

Maybe you should indicate you registered for the ride, and send them the bill. Or are the rides on public, open roads anyone can ride or drive on?

Hey, I already said I'm doing it (in two days). Along with the wife. Other .83ers who've told me they're doing it in two days include Jessica and Lieutenant Sean (with his wife) but their plans may have changed.
I'd totally wear a pirate bib along with the non-pirate.
Just for Ben, my bike will be sporting a completely pointless pink Dora the Explorer basketball hoop on the front handlebars (one of the shittier gifts my team got at Potlatch last weekend). I'm thinking of bringing along the ball and inviting fellow riders to dunk, but I fear I'll just spend 5 hours chasing down the errant ball. Maybe just at rest stops.

Derrick, you going to have some pirate bibs at Magnuson on Thursday? I've got a frisbee game in South Park, but I can swing by Magnuson easy afterwards.

i was thinking about those while heading into work this morning. ill try to get them made by thursday.
i havent read this thread, anyone got a tally on the exact names that are riding STP for sure? the bibs are custom with names
i guess i could make them generic and just print up a pile. that'll be easier
im on it

I take it back! I take it back! I was originally going to ride in one day, being that I didn't really know anyone riding, and I thought I'd be all hardcore like. But the tides have turned and I'm too worn down and stressed out to do the whole 204 in a day. Plus I've now met a bunch of .83-ers and would love to ride with the rest of the best.
Though I don't think I've met anyone else who is riding besides Mississippi. So...
Who else is riding that I need to meet!?! And do you plan on attending the Thursday ride?

I was planning on doing the two day ride, not buying a ticket and just using my bags to carry my tent, sleeping bag, food, whiskey, etc. Unfortunately, the one stupid class I'm taking this quarter has a "professor" who thought it would be good to announce on Monday that our midterm was scheduled for the following Monday (7/15). Given that I still have crap due this week, and would not be back in Seattle until *late* on Sunday, I feel I might have to forego the actual STP and just try the route by myself in another week or two. Damn you, school, for always making me choose between my present and my future.

im going to try and have these modded and printed for thursdays ride. just in case, here are the files
http://www.point83.com/graphics
those are the original pdf's from 2005, so ill have them modded (minus names) for printing. but hey, if you're near a printer and want to print off your own they are in that folder
hopefully ill have these ready for thursday.. doing my best.

I went down to REI yesterday to pickup my rider packet. Out of the 40-50 people in the place I was one of only two who had ridden a bike to get there. Hooray for Cascade! They've really done a great job of getting people on bikes!
Then when I was in line at the register using the impulse buy coupon I got waiting in line for my packet, there were a couple of middle age bought-in types ahead of me, one of whom was teasing the other aobut the manliness of his purchase of a white under-the-helmet headband. I was embarrassed for them.
Anyways, I've lost track and am too lazy to scan this thread, so tell me: who's riding in this thing and in how many days? My friends and I are overnighting in Vader, so if any of you two-dayers want to meet up there it would be nice.

I'm signed up for the ride, but still unsure whether I'll go for a 2 day ride or one day.

Peter, I will probably be riding down to Portland and further in August. If you wanna tag along that would be fun.

OT but, for future printing needs, there is a pretty badass color laserjet down the hall, which is all of like 200 yards from you.

Don't know when you were there, but the population of bike riders at around 1:30pm seemed significantly higher than that. Of course if you're looking to quickly grab your packet in the middle of the work day, everyone knows a bike is faster than parking in that garage.

The wife and I are staying at Kelso, but unlikely to get that far. I'm hoping to get us to Winlock or Vader. Where are you staying?

Provided my friend did his part, we'll be staying at the Lion's Club campground. If some reason he didn't mail in our registration, well, I guess we'll just have to see...

Dude, thanks for doing this.
I made some sloppy mods to the bib, like replacing derrick's nom de plume with teh kittehs. Check it out:

maybe instead of the pirate, it should just be something like this:
Yes, the skull and crossbones has a long history. However, I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER is funny. so there.

I stayed at the Vader AOG church last year, and there's no way their campsite filled up. I don't think any campsite fills up, really, particularly past Chehalis, so you shouldn't have any problem.

Thanks, Derrick. The wife and I should both be sporting spoke cards, as well as putting the biggest 'bib' somewhere facing the rear. So if (or perhaps I should say, when) you pass us by, say hello.

How early is everyone leaving? It looks like Johny and I won't be ready to rleave on our trip until early tomorrow morning after all. If you kids are leaving butt-crack early then I could use a bib.

My wife and I will leave our house no later than 5:30, which means we leave the start line before 6.
Last year I couldn't sleep very well, so I just left the house at around 5 and the start line before 5:30. I suspect something similar will happen this year.
It's supposed to be hotter this year, so leaving very early is probably a good idea.
