A less drastic, though also less thrilling, way of calling attention to the bollard problem would be to paint them a bright color--perhaps hot pink in honor of Aaron's bike. Or maybe we could affix giant signs to the top of each one with a downward-pointing arrow. Or just tie some balloons to them. Or hire midgets to stand on top of them and scream "POLE!" at every passing bicyclist.
The fellow I was following did not say "pole' and he swerved at the last minute.
Again, I do not blame anyone but myself. But we were in a pretty tight pack and perhaps we should shout out danger to our fellow bikers.
Taller bollards would be good, as would removing them and just the Car-X sign. Bright paint might help. I am sure the person the swerved in front of me did not see the bollard in time and that is why they swerved. I was probably following too close. I do remember that we were accelerating. Most bollards are either grey or brown and that pretty much dissapears with the background pavement.
Yoni shaped yellow lines (freeway style) around each bollard might also help.
I will be sure to watch out better from now on.
And Lee, you giving me shit about crashing? PUHLEAZE!
You and Langston hold the crashing records for the club!

what was the last ride i crashed on? do you remember? i crashed on a race and i crashed riding with andre, but i'm not blaming those on other people.
taller bollards would be worse because then you could risk hooking a handlebar.

nothing. and i will repeat. nothing will be painted pink in my presence.
bright yellow, green, or orange, fine by me. after all bright yellow is the most visible color and the first to be noticed by the human eye.

We had just crossed the street after waiting on the other side for people to catch up. We were not riding very fast (you'd probably be seriously injured otherwise). I was riding alongside of you and saw you hit the bollard. Aaron, nobody blames you for your accident--it was just stupid thing that happened, much like me not seeing that median curb or hearing evil Mike's warning that I was about to eat shit--and in this case it likewise isn't right for you to not-so-subtly place responsibility for it on somebody else. The bollard was, frankly, obvious. It didn't appear out of thin air, or even suddenly around a corner. It was at the entrance to a trail that we had just entered after crossing a street. Nobody called it out because it was really necessary. You know that otherwise someone would've shouted a warning.

Aren't drunks more likely to steer towards flashing lights? This might not be the best solution to prevent point83 and bollard accidents^Wcollisions.

I've got a cutting torch, but it might be hard to transport via bike.
It would make a statement though and no hole.
There are other methods that involve fire that I can look into...

Oh for cripes sake.
I wasn NOT "not-so-subtly placing responsibility for it on somebody else.".
The point I was trying to get across is that maybe, just maybe we could LEARN a thing of 2 from our squid bretheren. ALL of them, and I mean ALL of them shout out dangers on their rides. POLE!, HOLE!, CAR BACK, etc.
I hit the fucking bollard.
BTW, it was totally Brandon's fault because he took so long to fix his flat that I was able to drink 2 beers.

If anyone has hit a bollard (aka Goss Stop) and has been seriously hurt, please contact me.

It is important!
And to Pre-empt Joby, stay away from us because we are kind of dicks!
Also, I like to try to have sex with any women that I encounter, especially if they try and say no. I'm a swinger!

Only marginally related, but I've noticed that a lot of the trails around here have had their bollards removed. For example, the B-G from Fremont out the Ballard. What's up with that?

I hit one once and was completely unhurt, but my bike was very hurt, and that made me emotionally hurt. Not sure if that counts or not, but it's a true story. The mangled frame/fork still hang in my basement.

Nice, Joby! Now I realize you are an admin. However, you missed my jab at you, with the word "us". We are both black kettles, bitch!
The bollards along the BG in Freemont were removed for a reason.
There is something brewing that may remove all bollards in Seattle.
If you had an accident and your bike or your body were hurt, then contact me with your story.
