OK. I went to this in June and it was boring due to poor event planning. Checkout some pics from it.

This month registration is from 6-6:30 at the meetup point (think 7-7:30 at Westlake .83 time) and they have a closed race course (instead of the I-90 tunnel), so it should be more enjoyable to spectate.

From the official page:
Quote:

LOCATION: Meet at Cal Anderson park on Capitol Hill at 6:00 for registration and a group ride to Volunteer Park.

EVENTS:

Main Race: Closed circuit, 0.7miles, last man out each lap until only one remains! Twists, turns, and hills that will be sure to make some hope they're last!

Best Trick: With SF coming up, and whispers of secret tricks, this should be an interesting one.

Foot Down: The tough guy classic that you hate to love!

Trackstand Twister: A Seattle specialty and certified crowd pleaser.

Maybe I'll see some .83 folks there?

-Kevin

P.S. Last time I rode my cross-check and I was the only person there with a derailer.

ah, that makes alot more sense. somebody had though it was a "last man standing" race which would have been ridiculous. dropping the last racer is better, it gets better if you also give points for place at every lap but that might be a bit much for this race.

now i'm trying to figure out how i can work coming up to spectate into my evening plans.

Hey hey, not bad, not bad at all. For me the highlights were the 10 lap last man standing race and foot down.

The foot down circle was fantastic, it was like a jr. high fight at the flag pole with lots of whopping and yelling, a little bit of skill and a little bit of luck.

The main race was total blowout, the winner was a good 30-45 seconds in front of 2nd place and really fast and strong the whole way. As such the action was in the trailing pack. The big lesson in this type of race is to never assume you're not the last man, because you probably are.

(confidential to Evil Mike: 2nd place went to the ringer/cat-2 racer)
(confidential to everyone else: evilmike wants you at his 7 hills race tomorrow!)

Best trick was about 80% failed / lame tricks, and folks had a lot of trouble with the rules of Twister.

I saw four .83ers and probably about the same number of front brakes. I'll probably check it out again next month.

I dropped by for a bit, watched Marcus ride in the qualifier race.

Did some lap timing on the 3 lap qualifier, in the last bunch, 1:37, 1:42, 1:43, if i recall correctly. It looked like a fun race. I left before any of the tricks or whatever started.

I, of course, rode my road bike with gears and brakes and other luxuries on it, so I stuck out like a sore thumb. It was way too hip for me to stick around long, so I bugged out and drank beers with the old people.

Yep, those sound about right. Course map if you want to see how you stack up.

Yes! Totally awesome!

I went too! Also totally stuck out like a sore thumb what with the luxeries, brakes, gears and no spokes cards. Might have been more fun if I was cooler and knew more people there. But all in all it was pretty rad.
