Has anyone seen these spraypainted bike trails on the ground around Seattle that say coasting.com at the end?
I kinda thought it might be something cool like a DIY/guerilla bike project, but no. It's that lame ass Shimano Coasting website with those lame ass bikes that shift themselves or whatever.
Ttly lamers. I got pwned.

i mean, I appreciate "good" graphiti art...and I can definitely appreciate gorilla messages, but cheezy art to sell an even cheezer product? Weak attempt at coolness.
Granted i'd like to see more bikers, but if ya put this on a bike trail, aren't 'cha already preaching to the choir?
Maybe if they wanna sell a gorilla message to folks that enjoy the sub 5 mph on a bike they should paint this at a McDognutz drive thru or a old folks home.

Maybe a good way to protest is to go into a Coasting Dealer and express your dismay at the graffitti and then walk out without buying a coasting bike.
I think the bikes are neat, but not a good pick for Seattle. The look appeals to some, but the plastic hub caps will not last and the bikes will look crapy without them.

i've mostly seen these running through parking lots or on sidewalks.
i agree that the more people on bikes, the better. and if it takes a cheesy bike that shifts itself or makes things less intimidating for someone new then more power to them.
i do think that guerilla campaigns like this one aren't really targeting the people that they're trying to sell to. and this kind of faux-urban expression is just going to serve to confusing the hell out of people.
basicaly i was just bitching about being disapointed/duped by a dumb bike advertisement. the jokes on me.

They have one painted in front of the bike rack at Brouwer's. It's water-based paint, non-permenant, in fact I have seen it every week for the past month and it's almost gone. Good marketing tactic. Crappy product in my opinion, but screw it. More people on bikes, less people in cars.

if you look at the popularity of cruiser style bikes in europe its easy to extrapolate that a bike like that is going to be a bit more accessible to the general population. if everyone thinks they need a TT bike and a lycra kit to ride down to the store they are probably gonna keep avoiding it. guerilla art as marketing kinda makes me throw up a bit, but if it gets people on bikes i'll hold my tongue. also that raleigh is not a bad lookin' bike.

i would also like to point out that that website fucking sucks.
it's completely incongruous with a guerilla marketing campaign which inturn is completely incongruous with the fucking product itself.
maybe shimano is trying to mind fuck us into thinking we want this, but all i'm saying is it smells like a chain smoking gas station attendant.
