1. San Marco Rolls saddle, less the 8mo's riding time. Broken rail. Warranty? Do they stand behind their product? I sent them and email, but haven't heard back.

2. Cheap-o Pake fork blade snapped. Ridden about a year and a half. Warranty? (I actually just won a nice fork on eBay, and will be using that).

Thanks.

I can't answer your questions, but it's good to know the Pake fork isn't reliable. A FixedGearGallery review of a Pake based bike was very negative about the fork.

Quote:

Predictable and stable ride with the exception of the fork. Not only is it ugly as sin but it feels super stiff and not in a good way. What is the fork made of, reinforced rebar or something? Whatever steel it is made with, combined with the shallow rake, gives it an unpleasant ride on the road; overly quick and stiff. This fork might be good for the track but for riding on the road, I’d like to see an upgrade in steel quality and maybe a rake of 42 mm (short of changing the head tube angle). A simple lugged crown fork of a decent grade of steel would do wonders for this bike.

I think Jessica rides a Pake. Not sure if she frequents the fourm, but maybe she can defend/dogpile it.

I've found most companies that I've bothered to contact have had excellent warranty response. Ibex is the most recent awesome service experience I've had, they honored a warranty claim on bunch of wool cycling gear that I bought off e-Bay. The seller apparently didn't know how to evaluate a pair of wool cycling shorts.

Have you tried e-mailing their service department and finding out?

The name of the bike speaks for itself, Pake. I have emailed San Marco, but haven't heard back from them yet. I am emailing Pake to see what they'll do about the fork, I have gathered from others who break stuff that most bike companies won't warranty shit like that. However, I didn't even have a weld fail. I snapped the blade in half about an inch down from the weld.

Thanks.
I'll keep you all posted.

Assuming no obvious abuse or neglect, this is a textbook warranty issue. Things should not break in the middle of the non-load bearing part. I've never seen anything frame or fork related which failed more than 5mm from a joint or braze-on which wasn't a warranty issue.

Except the guy who put naval jelly on a Cannondale frame, which just eats the alloy and you should never do. It looked like someone stuffed an M-80 in the chainstay and set it off. Sadly, we didn't find this out until after Cannondale gave him a new frame, we overhauled what we could use, replaced what we couldn't, and he had paid for it. If he had told us prior to paying, we would have charged him for the frame and about half the overhaul instead of charging Cannondale for it.

The standard abuse and neglect of navigating curbs, potholes, traffic, cobblestones and bricks.

Got my new Mondocino Columbus fork on. It is sweet. So much better than my old cheap-o fork. I <3 my bike once again.

Thanks for the advice, I'll let you know if anything happens as far as warranty.

So, here's an update.

Thanks for your email. Unfortunately, San Marco's warranty does not
cover rails. However, we do have a San Marco Service Center that can
fix rails for a fee. Please contact the service center at the number
below for more information.

And my response.

I am honestly dissapointed. Not only was that my favorite saddle, I would brag to others about the quality of San Marco over Brooks or other high-end saddles. I can't believe that I need to pay to have this fixed. The other San Marco that I am riding, was given to me off a used bike, that has been ridden by me personally for over 2 years and 10,000 miles easy, and God knows how long and how many miles before it came into my possesion. San Marco has fallen from grace in my opinion. Lame.
