Sorry, but I've completely lost track of when this is happening...someone fill me in.

I have to work until at least 6 on Wednesday, so after 7 or so would be way better for me.

How's this for some starter flyer text?:
Attention cyclists:
Ride for your rights!
Show the city that they must honor the Bicycle Master Plan!
What:
A ride of enough cyclists to clog up lower Fremont but good . This will be a legal ride, which means we ride two by two and obey all traffic laws.
Why:
To protest the city’s elimination of the Stone Way bike lane, and the continued closure of the Burke-Gilman trail.
When:
???

If we're trying to ride to make a statement it should probably be earlier rather than later.
Also, maybe we'd be wise to give ourselves an extra couple of days to organize this. I'm thinking maybe do the acutal ride a week from monday, that way we could advertise at CM.

Agreed - during rush hour is probably best for visibility. And, giving ourselves a week to make signs/get the word out is also an excellent idea.
I'd be more than happy to spend a few hours handing out flyers and talking to kids on bikes about what's going on, but we probably should compile a list of talking points (and make SURE we have our facts straight).
I work with a bunch of cyclists, many of whom commute via the B-G through Fremont, so I should be able to get a few more bodies involved. I just want to make sure I know what I'm talking about before I start talking about it.

i agree with henry, giving it a week or two out puts it after CM (big flyer opportunity) as well as gives time to get it around the web for people to find out about. and more time to get it organized
joes text up above sounds about right. nice and concise, to the point.
also, some thought should be given to announcing this to the papers, and to the city and dev group that the pressure is being put on. so they have a clue, otherwise, eh, they might not even know
a week or two out gives time to get that info readied.

I think the general consensus is that 6 or 7 o'clock would be a little better for all involved, give us time to get back from work, get a bite to eat, etc. We shall make signage, get our shit together concerning flyers, cohese actual facts and discard fictions. eh?
As for flyer-text: the bit Joe wrote is far less flowery and much easier to read than anything I'd write. I think if we add a few more specifics (how the city is not following the recommendations of the planners, etc), we have it down.
Gasworks still work for all?

UPDATED BITCHES (emphasis mine):
Burke-Gilman Trail to be Reopened mid August
(SEATTLE)-The Burke-Gilman Trail will remain closed until mid August
for construction on the Fremont Bridge with a detour on North 34th
Street. SDOTs contractor plans to pave the trail during the week of
August 13, and then the trail will be opened to riders. During this
fall, traffic flaggers will occasionally close the bridge for ten or so
minutes at a time to allow delivery of materials for the bridge project.
The westbound bike lane detour added to North 34th Street for the
construction project will remain in place at least until completion of
the project.
SDOT previously announced that the Burke-Gilman Trail would remain
closed in the vicinity of the Fremont Bridge through the summer of 2008
due to nearby construction of the Lakeview Building, a private
development. After closer review of the construction project and the
property easements under the Fremont Bridge, SDOT has determined that
the Burke-Gilman Trail can safely remain open during construction of the
nearby private development.
The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates
Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor
Nickels goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and
long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that
better connect the city with the region.

OK - it's SEPTEMBER. Where's the open trail? Has anyone seen any paving? Next steps?

I just got this from Marybeth Turner, SDOT spokesperson. Interesting that she doesn't specifically mention the private construction projects as the reason for the ongoing closure, just the bridge maintenance.
Thank you for your e-mail to Katherine Bush regarding the Burke-Gilman Trail under the north approach of the Fremont Bridge.
As you may know, it was necessary to close the trail in the vicinity of the Fremont Bridge in fall 2005 for construction. It was unsafe to keep the trails open during construction, as the approach was being demolished and replaced over the top of the trail.
The re-opening of the Burke-Gilman Trail was delayed when a conflict was discovered between the storm drainage we were constructing under the bridge approach and a waterline. This conflict delayed completion of the work under the north approach, and the subsequent grading and paving that is necessary to allow us to safely open the trail.
Partial paving was completed under the north approach in August to allow for the final grading and paving in the area of the trail. Scheduling paving crews during the summer period is challenging due to a heavy workload. We plan to have the Burke-Gilman Trail re-opened by the middle of September.
Work continues on the bridge in the area of the trail, in order to replace the mechanical and electrical systems on the movable portion of the Fremont Bridge. The trail will pass adjacent to this work area, and equipment is still being delivered on the trail, so there will be occasional 15-20 minute interruptions to traffic on the trail during these times.
On the south approach of the bridge, we have recently been working to complete the sealing and painting of the structure, the final drainage work and the final grading and paving in the area of the Ship Canal Trail. We plan to have that trail re-opened by the end of September 2007.

Another two weeks of dodging blind cagers by the PCC. Just another reason to stop at the People's Pub to congratulate myself on, once again, making it home in one piece.

The canal drive / n. northlake way car ramp under the bridge approach is now paved and open.
Chatting with the construction guys, they were wanting to have the trail paved last week, but obviously that didn't happen.
