there was a thread about this on the PACNW forum on Bikeforums, so i put the link up to seattlelikesbikes.org there as well. there seemed to be enough people there that are following what's going on in seattle.

I really like the wording on this flyer. Let me know if I can help by making copies for CM tomorrow.
Nova, Henry, Derrick, Doug, Laura, et al, great job!
all it's missing is "Susie Burke rides a cockhorse!!!"

It would be nice to have 500+ copies, but since they're four up thats only 125 actual prints. It sounds like a few people are doing big runs, so maybe 25 copies of the 4 up?

It seems like it would be good to try to talk to commuters along that route on monday and tuesday during rush hour. Anyone want to go stand along the trail, or along Stone and hand out flyers?
One thing - she directs readers to point83.com, while interesting may not be the easiest way to get info on this. Can we ask that she edit it to have the seattlelikesbikes.org link?

For some reason I am drawn to the bottom of Denny at Westlake/Nickerson whatever at the Fremont bridge. Usually tons of cyclists there at red lights ... I can cover Tuesday afternoon there.

I asked her to post a correction, but I don't know if she will.
Re-direction an excellent idea.

I'll stand out on Nickerson & Dexter both days to hand flyers out to cyclists stopped at the light.

download the handbill print and flyer out wherever you can.
erm... am I the only one for whom these aren't working? All I get is a picture of a bike and some white space.
My machine took a minute before everything else appeared.

We've been getting emails of support in context to the Stone Way ride, but people also want to know what we're going to do and if we are going to do anything as far as the Fremont closure of the Burke goes. I've told them we'd like to address this after the Stone Way ride, and that originally it was part of the plot, but we decided dealing with one issue at a time would get us the best result. So, what I'm saying is:
We have enough inspiration and support to change the city.
And fuck Suzie Burke is a general sentiment of the day, too.
YeAH.

I wasn't at the meeting. Are we/did we make signs that we can stick to our bikes for the ride? Sure, we can hand out handbills, but big words you can read from across the street are good, too.

oh yeah...
this is from the back of the circa 1999 Fremont Dock business card of Michael Osterfeld, the son of Ms. Burke who assisted her in selling the heart and soul of Fremont into a land of business parks.
Just so your clear on their stance...
"No Apologies for Self-Interest"
"I have no quarrel with the citizenry, the bureaucrats, the legislators or the educators who say that corporations have a responsibility to society beyond the obligation to generate a fair return or or profit for the investor. The corporation... is a paper citizen, and every citizen has the responsibility to his fellow citizen...
However, I take real issue with the critics when they propose that corporations must put their other citizenship responsibilities ahead of their responsibility to earn a fair return for their owners... If we cannot earn a return on equity investment which is more attractive than other forms of investment, we die. I am not aware of any bankrupt corporations which are making important social contributions..."

I'm a little too lazy to read the whole thread...
My ankle is pretty screwed and I don't think I'm going to be able to ride on Wednesday! I really shouldn't.
But I'd really like to pair it up with some people going out to talk to the citizens and hand out flyers. Help get people knowledged.
Nova, Laura, Ito, are you going to be going out? It sounded like most of the points were being covered. Any ideas?
Let me know. Anyone can call me, or write me back.
206.718.6203. I'll be free for sure Monday after 5 and Tuesday, some time around then. I think those are prime times to be hitting the main spots where commuters, bikers, pedestrians, people in general will be rolling though. I may be available weekend some time, and will try to be at mass. Someone hit me up!
Also, the little flyers are worded wonderfully. Come from a good angle, express the right sentiment, don't seem too radical. Good job, to who ever writ those up!
All times are GMT - 8 Hours
