From Dewey Potter:
CONSTRUCTION TO CAUSE BRIEF DISRUPTION
OF BURKE-GILMAN TRAIL
Private construction activity near the Burke-Gilman Trail will disrupt
both bicycle and pedestrian use of the Trail between NE 125th Street and
NE 135th Street for an estimated 10 work days, excluding weekends,
beginning Monday, August 6.
The paved trail will be fenced off for a distance of approximately 400
feet north of NE 125th. The unpaved running and walking path along the
east side of the Trail will be open for use. Signage will direct
cyclists to dismount and walk their bikes through this section of the
Trail.
Parks regrets the need to close the Trail in the summer, but this
temporary reduction in the usability of the Trail is necessary for
safety reasons. A private construction project will include the
installation of several horizontal drain lines into the hillside above
the Trail. The drains are intended to release excess groundwater that
could contribute to continued sloughing of the hillside or a landslide.
The City is cooperating with this work by allowing access from the
Burke-Gilman Trail.

Glad it's only 10 days, glad we can still walk our bikes, damn to closing the trail during peak-season. also yay to excluding weekends, i guess? tho it is sorta like an F/U to commuters, no?

I'm following up with Dewey Potter as to what "excluding weekends" really means. Are they going to take down their fencing over the weekends, or simply cease construction work with the fences still blocking the trail?

Indeed the "excluding weekends" refers to just the construction. The fencing will stay up the whole time.

Will the parallel road be closed? Why the heck don't they detour people onto the road?
Heck, I'll use the road whether they send me there or not.
By the way, hasn't the Burke been closed in Kenmore for months (near Swamp Creek)? It was certainly closed for more than 10 days, but I guess they might have reopened it by now.
Anyway, hooray for the anti-erosion work. If only they'd do something about the tree roots.

fuc, FUC, FUC!!!
why is it sooo gawddamned difficult for this gawddammed city to POST NOTICES of this shit, HUH!!!
I ride that track EVERY GAWDDAMMNED DAY and theres no notice, warning, detour info...NOTHING!
Jeuzuzkawkeatinchrist, WTF do I pay taxes for? Notify people of the damn closure BEFORE HAND and create a fucking detour you shitballrolling midget fuckers!!!
Lets see here:
BGT in Freemont = shitholled
BGT in Kenmore = shitholed (but at least it has a decent detour)
BGT in BFE = rumored shitbagged (and not sure if there is a decent detour)
LCW from 145th to Ballinger way STILL FUBAB'ed to deth!
the ENTIRE BGT is a rattle fest of root ripples...good damn thing i dont ride a "normal" bike or my taint would be as chafed and swollen as Henrys nipples

Isn't low-bid contracting wonderful? In addition to low-quality workmanship, isn't that track mostly 25 years old? Come work in Kent, the Interurban is nice.

oh yeah..i DID see the signs, all 6 of em!
what i DONT understand is that they're telling folks to walk their bikes on the dirt shoulder of the path! Uh, geniuses...theres not that much room with the damn trees in the way for folks to pass. How about a detour to the road below (thats where i'll be...always taking the low road)..oh, but that might interfere with the home owners...wah!

wadda mean "finally"???
I rode that road nest the the BGT where their gonna close it off and it was the oddest thing. That strech of road is marked as a "Dead End" but it DOES GO THRU...albeit CHAINED OFF at a residence?!?
WTF
So there IS a way thru, its just not public-ish...i think? fucking shitardians...they can close the BGT and tell walkers, goggers and bikers to share like 2 gawddamn feet of dirt while the road below is suitable for all but some dickstach that lives on the lake thinks hes too damn special to share it with others, but the closure is to create drainage so the hill doesnt come into their homes...AMAZINGLYSELFISHORSESHIT!!!
i'm going to ride it every day and may even make signs or beg off a bolt cutter to cut the fuckwads chain...if you have seen/saw this setup you'd understand. chain off a road from everybody else for your own adjenda. g'aye

I just got this from Dewey Potter, with Seattle Parks:
Hi Doug--
I have good news. The "revocable use permit" issued to the construction company has been amended to include this language:
"Permittee is advised that a major bicycle event, involving approximately 1,300 participants, will take place Friday morning, August 17, 2007. Bicyclists will be riding north, starting from Magnuson Park at 6:30 am to 7:30 am, reaching your construction site shortly thereafter. These bicyclists will be IN ADDITION to the usual morning bicycle commuters and pedestrians. If construction and clean-up are not complete by that time, Permittee must provide clear space for heavy short-term Trail usage, removing materials, equipment, and anything else that would impede use of the Trail."
HA!

For those who don't know, that's RSVP (Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Party). Someday I've got to get my friends to stop riding STP and do this instead.
