I can do a Tuesday gig pretty much anywhere on the route. If no one else has claimed it yet, I'll snag the southeast corner of Stone and the BGT, where I spilled a little blood yesterday...

I am free Monday and Tuesday. I'll fill in wherever. Nickerson & Dexter, or 34th & Fremont, or 34th & Stone.
I'll ask SpeedyReedy to post a flyer as I head past there in about 20 minutes.
Are we organized on posting flyers at businesses, or is that still completely ad-hoc?

Is there some way we could creatively format the flyer info so it's easier for a rider to grab and hang onto?
Also, big signs along the trail seem like a good idea. Does anyone have access to some kind of large format printer?

how large?
we have a server printer (i think its called that) the uses paper rolls that are like 3 or 4 feet wide. I'd have to get permission to access that and get into the dept that uses it...i'll go see if my support dwed is around...
<edit>
too damn late..hes gone, and i dont work on Fridays (against my religion).
give me a dimension and if I get down here tomorrow i'll see if I can have some of these printed.

I can go around UW on Monday. I talked to the ASUW bike shop after our meeting, and they asked me to bring in some flyers for them and their customers. If we still need folks on Tuesday, I could do that too.

Bwahahah! Your new picture is awesome! Haa haaa haaa.
Um. I'll join somebody. The spot by Baja Fresh could use more than one person, since the herds gather and flush out pretty quickly. One person on each corner that needs it, maybe three people at that intersection to make sure each rider that rolls through gets a handout of some sort.
Anyone think of any good spots that have yet to be mentioned?
I also just want to say, cheers to this whole group for their devotion to this cause. It's important, so easily overlooked. This is an important step in making sure that the bike community in Seattle has a voice. Proud to be a part of it!

I'll hit up various stops around the U-district tomorrow, and Monday I can hit up Capitol Hill before practice. I was thinking that if we punched a hole in the corner of hte flyers and tied them to various busy bike racks we could spread the word that way, as well.
I'll hit Left-Bank Books and Pike Place with a few flyers after work tonite.
See you all at Mass!

I'm not going to be able to hit up E Pike today, i'm going to stay home from work and get a legitimate site going for this thing.

if people are finding competition for sites, look at the intersection of 45th/50th & Stone, Greenlake & Stone. It is a regional connector, might as well include people who might not be going that way that day but utilize it other times.

Last night I hit some utility poles along 45th, and slipped flyers to Pudge Brothers, Not A Number and the Erotic Bakery, all of whom are flyer-friendly.
I also put one up at Shorty's.

Yesterday I was out in Bellevue, so I gave a big flyer to Greggs in downtown Bellevue. I put a few flyers in spokes around Bellevue and then at the Red Hook Brewery. And then I put a few on traffic poles/signs on 45/Stone.

hey everyone, ito's in the process of updating the files so our flyers actually mention the name "Stone Way" instead of just discussing the fremont area in general. probably just an oversight in the author's quest for a concise yet well-worded statement of purpose.
speaking of whom, huge thanks to *everyone* who has been involved in organizing this terrific effort. it feels like we've actually got a good chance to make our voices loud enough that they are of a greater impact than Oozy Suzie Burke's (almost bribe-like...) campaign contributions.

I hit the NE corner of Nickerson and Dexter tonight. Between 5:05 and 6:25pm, I handed out 99 handbills to cyclists, 1 to an interested car, had 4 out of towners graciously decline, had about 20 cyclists turn me down most said they would be out of town or doing another ride on Wed, about 15 who just asked for the website, and at least 60 who sped by on the green light or were in the far lane.
The word is getting out. Quite a few people had heard about this ride but didn't know the details.
I'll be there again tomorrow from 4:30-5:30 (maybe 5:45). I need to be in upper Ballard at 6:30 and my power to weight ratio is more like a weight to power ratio.

I got some of the 8 1/2 x 11's to the UW bike shop, Recycled, and Performance today, all three of whom were excited about the cause, and readily allowed me to tape a few flyers wherever I thought would be a good spot. Everyone seems to know about the issue now due to all of Erica Barnett's coverage, (thank you, stranger) I think it's now just a matter of giving those who feel strongly about it a focused voice. All the folks I spoke with were glad to hear about our effort and the ride itself.

i handed out about 50 handbills today between 5-6pm at fremont & 34th. most cyclists were extremely receptive to the idea. several said they'd be there. quite a few already knew about it.
i'll hand out more tomorrow, probably at the intersection of westlake and dexter where the riders are coming off the hill waiting for the light to cross the bridge into fremont.
this could potentially be pretty big.

I handed out 100 flyers at that intersection tonight, but I noticed that I missed a lot of cyclists who took the flatter Westlake to Fremont Ave route and some of the folks that I missed as they flew past on a green light were stopped for a while next to the bridge waiting for a boat to pass.
A couple of my car-driving co-workers are also going to drive laps around the route to help us create more congestion.
The Fremont Chamber of Commerce is also aware of our ride:
Quote:
Please be aware that this Wednesday, August 1st there is a bicycle protest scheduled for the
Fremont area at 4:30 depicted in the map below. Your business could encounter disruption due to increased traffic volumes, and a large amount of cyclists.
The Fremont Chamber has never viewed this as a Business vs. Bicycles issue and we welcome the protestors to our business district, please be courteous to them. We look forward to discussions with the bicycle community and a resolution of this issue.

Aw shit, Henry.
I'm sorry. I've had to put up lost kitty posters twice since I've had my cat (4 1/2 years), and it's always turned out to be something stupid where he ended up being okay. The first time, some lady found him and thought he was lost (he was a half block from my place) and the second time I think he was just stuck in someone's garage or something cause he was gone for a day and a half, and then he just came back, like nothing ever happened.
In other words, I know how you feel, and being the daddy of an MIA kitty pretty much sucks, but I'm sure that he/she will be back home in no time.
My roommate just lost his cat last month, and she ended up being fine, too. Now used solely for their comedic value, here're the flyers he came up with...

I have friends who lost their kitty for a month and a half. In the dead of winter, with snow on the ground. When he came back like 6 weeks later he was a skinny kitty, and didn't want to go outside for like 6 months.
I've done a bit of flyering at work and put up a large message on a central whiteboard as well. The flyers I initially put up were gone so I printed more... a good sign. I've had several people tell me they'll be coming, between work, critical mass, and random flyering I've done, so it should be a good turnout. It sounds like a lot of people care. Yay activism!

Posters went up on the "Waiting for the Interurban" people last night ... did anyone see if it was there this morning? Should be 3 - one with the website, one with the ride date & info, one with some complaint about stone way.
