This continues Joe's thread about the dearth of touring forks with 1" steerers. I'd prefer not to go threadless, because I have a really nice stem and a great threaded headset that I don't want to give up.

What I'm looking for: steel fork, 1" threaded 250mm steerer, canti posts, fork-end eyelets, and room for fenders and tires at least 35mm. I don't know how much of the steerer needs to be threaded. I'd prefer the fork blade low-rider bosses, but I think that might just be a pipe dream. I envision an old Trek 520 fork.

I've scoured the internet and the catalogs. The closest I've gotten is the tange prestige hybrid, which I'm scared has limited fender and tire clearance. I've got money to spend, but I'd prefer not to spend $150-$200 for a custom steel fork. Used, any color, brand new -- just point me in the right direction. If you have something like this sitting around, I can come to your house today.

Another though: converting a threadless fork to a threaded fork. I was thinking of getting a cross-check fork (which has that pretty lugged fork crown and tons of clearance), cutting the steer tube to length, and getting the steerer threaded. I'm not sure of the feasibility of this, but it was thought.

Suggestions on what to do?

i'm tellin' ya, call r+e about that 1" surly fork. you're not gonna do better, imo. i'd probably suck it up and swap for a threadless headset, but that's just me.
