Just got this from SDOT:
Burke-Gilman Trail to be Reopened mid August
(SEATTLE)-The Burke-Gilman Trail will remain closed until mid August
for construction on the Fremont Bridge with a detour on North 34th
Street. SDOT’s contractor plans to pave the trail during the week of
August 13, and then the trail will be opened to riders. During this
fall, traffic flaggers will occasionally close the bridge for ten or so
minutes at a time to allow delivery of materials for the bridge project.
The westbound bike lane detour added to North 34th Street for the
construction project will remain in place at least until completion of
the project.
SDOT previously announced that the Burke-Gilman Trail would remain
closed in the vicinity of the Fremont Bridge through the summer of 2008
due to nearby construction of the Lakeview Building, a private
development. After closer review of the construction project and the
property easements under the Fremont Bridge, SDOT has determined that
the Burke-Gilman Trail can safely remain open during construction of the
nearby private development.
The Seattle Department of Transportation builds, maintains and operates
Seattle's $8 billion transportation infrastructure. To further Mayor
Nickels’ goal to get Seattle moving, the department manages short- and
long-term investments in streets, bridges, pavement and trees, that
better connect the city with the region.
This is NOT a coincidence, people!

Hey, we won before the first shots were fired!
At least that's what I'm going to claim. Who knows what caused this change, but note that Cascade's been concentrating on Stone Way, not the BGT.
(To be fair, so have we, but I think it's fairly clear that the supposed extra year of closure was the straw that broke the camel's back and made people get off their butts.)
Anyway, one down, one to go for Fremont.

I'd count this as a win. Saw the above email in my inbox and cheered.
