Last I checked Aaron was not in the charity business.
Would you expect a mechanic to give you a free assesment of your car after a fender bender?

i just see passive aggressive behavior as seattle's greatest problem.

not to fan the flames in any direction, but i have to say to jeff, auto mechanics and auto body shops always give free quotes to damaged vehicles.

I'll probably take my bike to Aaron's because he rides with .83 and I'd rather support someone who's down with the group. I just need to get a ride out there. (And I hoping to get some groovy ground effect lights on my bike too) jk
If its too much to get out there I'll just take it to wherever. I just need someone to say it's going to take at least $700 for parts and labor.

So Aaron charges. It's not mandatory to use his shop.

Well, for one, the google maps website interaction is busted.
I'm willing to spend some time looking into what is needed to fix that problem if anyone wants to shoot a copy of the code my way.

Well Elliot Bay Bikes was close so I went, and let me just say, I might as well left it outside for him to look at throught the window. If I knew the effort that was going to go into checking out my bike, was like it was, I wouldn't have wasted my time. _Very_ dissapointed.
Leaning over it, and a half pedal once to move the rear wheel doesn't make me feel good about your estimate.

I read this on my phone and went down to give them a big WTF? and found out that for some reason you ended up with Bob who is the guy who restores antique bikes.
If you don't have a vintage bike he doesn't undertand it... but he is also the guy who has done all the restorations that are hanging in the shop.
Eaman is the guy I said you should go see and he said you should bring the bike by. If you go with Duggan hew will send your bike to Eaman anyway. Expect to leave it there overnight at least.
Sorry you went in when their mechanics were swamped. I'm not sure why Bob checed your bike over. He's great to have your wood rims restored...
anyway, if you want to go back ask for Eaman, he's their lead mechanic.

If you contact Duggan, he will instruct you to take it to Elliott bay, and your bike will be there at least overnight. Duggan's office takes care of any fees and labor from their shop (I think he's got some agreement with them, that as long as he keeps riding Davidsons he'll get hooked up). I still highly recommend working with Duggan before you try to go out on your own with the insurance company and take your bike around to shops for estimates.

I had a pretty long conversation with Duggan, and he did suggest Elliot Bay.
It really doesn't matter where I go to, someone just needs to give me an estimate form that says "new bike $750 plz k thx" or new and better parts up to $750 (Plus cost for new helmet and bike computer) and then I'll get a check.

ABR specializes in fixing all but the most destroyed bicycles and reusing as many of the original parts as possible. This has the advantage of wasting the fewest parts which are still usable. Sadly, rebuilding may cost more than just buying new.
If you just need an estimate, there are plenty of bike shops you can just walk into with a damaged bike for one. I recently had a bike I needed estimates on and got three in one 2 hour trip to three shops.
