Well I was riding home from alki tonight. As i was about to enter the myrtle Edwards park trail, as usual there was a park security guard there yelling at me. I ignored him like always. I figured he was just telling me to slow down so i told him to fuck off and try to catch me. As i continued down the trail i realized maybe that's not what he was trying to tell me. I approached two officers on the trail and i stopped and turned around and they let me know that i was tainting a crime scene. At which point i look down and see drops of blood. I'm like oh shit sorry. Then i start yelling about the violence on our park trails and that this is my way home. And people need to stop stabbing each other. The officer made it clear that it wasn't a stabbing and i didn't ask for any more clarification. After making me feel like a complete ass for blowing by the park security guard, without a helmet, or rear light. they let me go home via 15th. I think we need to have a night out against crime! And we also need to throw eggs at the park security guards cause they are douche bags that were trying to get the officers to write me a ticket. I think we need a night out against crime more though.
ride safe kids,
Paul

Good job. Glad to see Point83 rules regarding Interacting with Lesser Law Enforcement Officials in full effect.

I love it when people come into my workplace, fuck things up while ignoring me, and generally make an ass of themselves. Fortunately, I'm not a douche bag like some people.

I think that maybe the cops could have put up some crime scent tape or something like that, and done something besides let the park security vermin try to stop people.
I also think we need a night out against crime. Preferrably in a bar.

Funny. I got in a yelling match with the rent-a-cop last night too! Megan and I were on our way home from, around 11:30 and the security guard came bustling out from behind the fountain to tell us that we couldn't go through and had to stop. Stupidly, we actually listened to him. He told us that there was a criminal investigation going on and that the trail was closed. My questions were; okay, where are the police? Where is the crime-scene tape? Why is some rude $9/hr security POS left to secure the entrance of a public thoroughfare and getting mad at me for not believing him?
After getting the security cop's name (Jerome) I called the non emergency number for SPD while he was still in my presence, and they confirmed that there was an investigation going on at the park. Tomorrow megan and i are both lodging complaints with SAM about the security's lack of professionalism.

The guy prolly makes $9 an hour. He was trying to do his job. On the bright side, maybe they are hiring!?!

How about some more detail? The security guy sounds like he was doing his job just fine. He told you to stop, and the trail was closed. He explained the situation, and you confirmed the story with the police. Did you take into consideration that the crime scene tape may not be the first thing to be put up at a crime scene? You guys sound like a bunch of self-righteous pricks taking pot shots at a guy who's trying to do his shitty job while you guys are out for a pleasurable ride. Ask anyone who does a customer service job what dealing with general public is like, and they'll be full of stories of assholes coming in to ruin their day.
The security guard probably works graveyard shift at the park, witnessed a crime (or came up on the aftermath), did his job and called the real police, and then attempted to keep the crime scene clear while you guys tried to circumvent him because he hasn't put in time at the academy.
So lets egg him, and the guy who has to pick up litter downtown, and the guy who works the drive through window, because their lives aren't shitty enough without .83 being a bunch of assholes.

.83 fights crime - by going to a bar to keep .83 off the streets.

Alastair, I'm going to come to your store, shop-lift some stuff and leave a poo in a nice pan.
I understand he was "just doing his job" but the whole event could have been much better handled on his part

You don't even necessarily need the squid proxy. Just openssh ssh -D will create a local SOCKS4 proxy, as long as they don't do any DNS filtering that's all you need.

I'm going to vote yes. Can we change the title of this thread to RAPE at Myrtle Edwards? This makes my skin crawl... fucking misogynist fucks lurking in our parks. Makes me glad I ride a bicycle, but I'll still never ride through there alone at night.

This makes me angry! How does this happen in a park that has bike security +/- 20 yards away. What makes you think this fellow on a bike can communicate that a crime scene closed the park trail! It took an HOUR for someone to help this girl.
So Alastair, I don't think this security guard or guards were doing a fine job at all.
I've changed my mind on the egging of the security guards. I wouldn't want to miss and make a mess on a sculpture.[/url]

This is one of my favorite night rides and places in the city ... and while you know danger lurks everywhere, it sucks when it's in a place you consider "safe." :( Maybe it's time to get a U-lock within easy grasp to pummel those that can't keep their hands and whatever else to themselves.

Newspaper comment sections do seem to be one of the cesspools of the internet. What a lovely blame-the-victim fest that one is.

The second guy was pretty cool (*w/ sarcasm*) he's all: yay for people willing to do something, I nearly saved a stray dog, look at me I'm a hero too, unlike people with ipods and lattes.
/me sips ipod and listens to latte, whoops wrong hands! wet ear!
It's pretty weird how everything pretty much dissolves into a gun debate. I wonder how long it is before the stop signs on the BGT issue becomes a gun debate?

my U-lock weighs 4 lbs, it doesn't need brass knuckles. i'm gonna start wearing it locked to the cable lock around my shoulder, for easy removal and asshole-swatting.
i don't read the sound off section on news websites; i find my blood pressure and my faith in humanity are much better off if i just skip it. thanks to everyone on .83 for not being complete douchebags and blaming the victim or making jokes... rape is never funny.

Just because we don't make tasteless jokes/accusations about rape doesn't mean we aren't douchebags.
For example, Derrick.
