dear .83,
please in the future refrain from bringing batshit insane crazy camping with you in the future. at the very least, perhaps you shouldn't let her drink most of the beer and bushmills.
thank you,

Which leaves the question, "Who brought/invited/tried to get into the pants of the aforementioned batshit insane crazy minor?"
Her MySpace (while not something I scanned in great detail) doesn't have anyone listed as a friend that I recognized in my sub-15 second viewing.

Looking at that page hurts my eyes almost as much as listening to her hurt my ears. Pity? Disgust? Still don't know what to make of that.
Otherwise, Great trip! Look forward to seeing the coming photographic evidence of the mayhem. When/where's the next one of these?

i look forward to all the pictures of parents with piles of kids on the monte cristo trail, tons of people on bikes, old people, and strollers on the trail that langston was trying to tell people was too difficult :)

I hope she logs into her MySpace page soon so we can see if she survived the weekend. I'm worried about that girl.
My first bike camping trip was so much fun! Thanks for the great company, fresh water, and the three plates of fiesta. I'll be uploading photos soon.

Per the nutritionist, it's only good for farm animals ...
I just want to say that waking up and hearing Ro reading some poem from across the camp site rocked. What were you reading? Please share. :) And bring more for the next journey.
DANG - our little transient friend clearly has internet access ... yikes!
Favorite moments:
1) Joe's great bee escape
2) Lee folding over in laughter, finally ending up on the ground as Sketchy galloped (?) through the river.
3) Learning that some people think water in a plastic zippie hung over an open door frame will somehow deter flies from entering a restaurant.
4) Ben desperately trying to counsel Sedro Kinky to stay away from shit drugs.

the real change lady at the QFC on 15th has a nicer cell phone then me...
fifty-plus! maybe after that you get to start coming up with your own definitions?
anyhow, my partial ride report:
joeball, mikeod, and myself met up with btah and sketchy and waited in traffic for a few hours before getting to verlot. from there we headed up the road as it got darker and darker. eventually tball and ltabg (laura the angry ben's girlfriend) passed us driving to hike in. when we finally reached the trailhead with the last dwindling twilight, it was evident that they'd headed in on the closed road. so we had to follow them, since they didn't have anything for gear.
then, in the dark, ben almost died on potholes and we had to do the worst detour ever with 70lb+ touring bikes and the trailer. up up up the slippery dirt path in the dark, down down down the other side. there is not really any describing how tired and pissed off we were, until we hit the river and lo, it was ro on the other side telling us that he had:
a) the best campsite ever
b) the girls
c) a warm fire going
that was all it took to get sketchy to charge across the water, as did everyone else. they regretted it later when they had wet shoes for the rest of the weekend.
still, we met up and, other than mikeod almost passing out, we got set up and were happy.
the next day we woke fairly early, rode up to monte cristo and hiked up the steep-ass trail to poodle pass and silver lake. after ditching ben and sketchy and an hour getting eaten by bugs at silver lake we came back down and found derrick in our camp. and that's when things went downhill?

my photos are in the point83 flickr pool! (and yours should be too - so much better than coppermine or gallery2)
I'd propose a late October date for that one to miss the crowds and to take advantage of crappy late season weather to better appreciate the hot springs.
However, IMO, this climb is much better in the late spring when it can be done as an easy (took my Mom up this climb several years ago) snow climb with spectacular views.
I'd love to hear suggestions for something else before the late summer window closes up in the end of September.

Hilarious! It's not too often that the funniest moments are captured on film.
Funny how much easier that detour was in daylight, and not under duress worrying if we'd find the girls.
That was indeed the best campsite ever, especially after Sketchy hauled a gigantic 12 foot beam to use as a campfire couch. Another few .83 camping trips and the rest of that bridge will be gone.
The ride out to Darrington was fun, though the low cloud cover shielded any views of the mountains. The damage is all limited to a 3 mile or so section of the road, starting a mile or 3 from Barlow pass. In short, there's no reason not to do the Mountain Loop Highway by bicycle, as long as you don't mind a few hike-a-bike scrambles. I didn't have to unload the bike, though there were a couple spots where I was tempted to.
There was one section with a lot of downed trees, not too hard to lift the bike over or roll it under. Plus 2 or 3 major washouts, which, though a little tricky in spots due to piles of loose sand/dirt/rock, were all passable by carefully pushing/dragging/lifting the bike. All were no longer than and less difficult than the bypass to the Monte Cristo campsite. The washouts were under construction, and there were signs instructing pedestrians/bicyclists to wait until construction personnel waved them through. On a Sunday though nobody was working. There's a gate on the Darrington side where you have to lift the bike over a big rock, similar to the gate at the Monte Cristo trail head.
There were people camping and fishing on both sides of the closed section, and there was a little traffic on the Darrington side heading to and from the campsites, but probably much much less than when the whole loop is open.
Lee, you have a couple cold ones coming your way as thanks for the portage - one for each cold foot.

Another slice of conversation
Kelly: "I have a sweatshirt that says 'love is colorblind, racism hurts' "
Lee: "I have a t-shirt that says 'I am 10 ninjas' but I am not"
Kelly: "Yeah but I have a SWEATSHIRT"
Lucia: "so what, it costs 10$ more"

"it's not about the penis size, it's about the maturity. my ex is 27."
yes, maturity. the dude lives in a camping trailer on his dad's property without power or water hooked up to it, dates insane 18 year olds, and takes a pistol and a hatchet out into the woods to go hunt for lost indian gold statues?

That Indian gold must be pretty damn lost if it's up here.

no no no, you have it wrong.
It is the King's Gold which the Priests stole and used Indian Slaves to hide for them. If you want to find one of the 3 locations look for the big tree with no top and then for the big big rock next to a smaller big rock, you just have to roll the smaller big rock away to get to the treasure, but shh, don't tell anybody else.

I just about died laughing when she said the rock was by a big tree with no branches on the top, I assume she meant a snag. I told her there were only about a million of those trees up here...but no, no there is a big rock 12ft long and 4ft high next to it...I told here there was only about 2 million of those rocks up here.

I also weigh more than Kelly.
Kelly (with enthusiasm): "I bet I weigh less than everyone here!"
and
Kelly: "Hanging out with you guys makes me wish I had my bike."
Afterthought: we should have sent her away with the leftover fiesta.
And, here's the Baby Kelly doll:

Ok enough, now the good
Kalen cooked up some great potatoes from his garden.
Sketchy antics, too many to count.
Lee's commentary about group behavior
Ben pulling a two wheel trailer full of beer.
Great people, views, camping, suspense.
More, More

sounds like y'all had a great time. I've camped in that same spot multiple times, but I've never (and I've been up there +3 times) had good weather. Lucky bastards. Next time let's go to Lake Crescent over on the peninsula!

there was this one time when I could swear you weren't attached to me by the hip and I was dancing and there were midnite margaritas at my new place up on the hill...
for the record, I am still nowhere near un-packed, but at least my new house mates and I have experienced drunken bonding.
I've had drunken bondage--er, bonding with the pointy-folk at least a half-dozen times now, so that makes us just about like family or something. which i think means they're to be avoided, yeh?
oh well.
you and I and some of the Wabis will have to plot another trip.
