More fend for yourself style than some other trips, we will stop in NorthBend for supplies, we may eat lunch along the way.

Concluding one bike camping trip means it is time to plan another. I find that the weekend before or following Labor day (and Memorial Day) are good times to minimize crowds since the hoards are usually concentrated on the actual long weekend.
Based on our group dynamic
Scenic ride is good
Proximity to Water is good
Proximity to neighbors is not so good
Ability to have a campfire and collect wood is good.
Large camping area is good.
Mt Rainier? Back to the peninsula? Whidbey island?
Any ideas on locations and what are peoples availability in September, specifically the 8th and 9th?

I'm down, that weekend seems to work for me. I was bummed about missing the Monte Cristo trip so count me in for this one. Mt. Rainier could be good, I went backpacking up the Carbon River valley about a month or so ago and it was awesome. Only problem is that bikes aren't allowed past the end of the road... but then, if we got there entirely by bike it could be a nice long challenging trip, but not too insane.

Weekend after Labor day good Sept 8th and 9th.
Teanaway Road is good, usually dry and sunny, lots of good uncontroled camping places on the river, lots of hiking.

of course, cle elum /teanaway could almost be yet one more trip, since the late summer/early fall over there is fairly mild. we could probably even pull that off in october.
what about something over in the olympics? it's the dry season!

Heading east sounds like a reasonable option, but I do concur that we could almost stretch that into an October expedition, would fire risk drop off then too?
i'm penciling in the 8th and 9th.
Having the group leave together would be nice, since we were out of phase by a 1/2 day this last time it kind of had our two partitions out of sync. An early Saturday departure and late Sunday return could probably work for people no?

I'd like to come on this trip.
It would be great if we could go somewhere that had direct car support, so we could bring more supplies, travel lighter, farther, faster and more inclusively. There is tons of DNR land out 'round Hood Canal, and heck, the coast is only a (long, ferry-shortened) day long ride.
I can think of multiple great places to hike, enough hikes for a lifetime of sunny weekends, but haven't done much bike camping that had to accommodate a large group.
I promise only to complain about Lee's elitist attitude and deficient cycling stamina.
It is true Teneaway can be pushed latter in the season. When things get dry on the east side they shut down having a fire. Does anybody know of any uncontroled Olympic areas?
There is also the Salmon La Sac area. Park in Rosyln and bicycle toward Mt Daniel.

now don't get me wrong, but how about a ride up the John Wayne Trail to some place that has a better chance of being dry?
Maybe Lake Kacheese, or Lake Cle Elum?
it has all the requirements:
Scenic ride
Proximity to Water
not much Proximity to neighbors
Ability to have a campfire and collect wood
Large camping area
Folks can meet at the trail head in North Bend by Rattlesnake Lake. The trail is long, maintained and has cool things like long assed tunnels thru mountains...
Come on...we've been talking and talking about this route since spring...lets do this!
Theres Roslyn and Salmon La Sac (as mentioned) close by, easy access for cars (as requested), stores and bars (obvious necassity) so food and h2o can be got there instead fo hauling it...hell, theres a load of shitty restaurants that are in need of a good Pointeethreeing...

Two departure groups will still work but if they are both a.m. departures then the timing will not be out of phase, one group just has a whole extra day rather than half. I'll decide closer to the date about if I will be taking friday off. It depends where we are headed and what hiking is there (and if I want to haul my boots again).

Then again, this looks like the kind of year when I'd bet on a higher-than-average September rain total.
Speaking of September rain, did you know that the first Lollapalooza added Seattle at the end of the tour? End of September, King County Fairgrounds (Enumclaw). It rained constantly. My friend and I got really, really wet.

Might I suggest Lost Lake just east of Snoqualmie Pass.
I’ve spent some nights here. I believe the John Wayne trail would get you close.
It is a bit of uphill gravel road to the lake itself. There are a few fishers that are up there in the day. But I’ve never had company overnight (maybe a bear or deer)
There is room for a car or two.
Trevor memtioned the John Wayne trail. We could park at the rattlesnake lake entrance and ride through the tunnel(something I have always wanted to do). The tunnel closes at the end of Oct. Then there is Lake Easton which is about 30+ miles from rattlesnake. I'm sure we could find some camping. And Mt Burgers(hmmm).

I am not sure I can do a Friday departure this time but can leave early Sat. What does early mean? Not meet at Dicks at 8:30 lv town at 9am.
Early means, old man early, lv town between 5-6am, early. When the bears are just waking up.
Did I tell you I say a bear this last weekend. Crossed the road about 200 feet ahead of me. Must have been a teenager, was tall and gangly and had a surly sort of attitude(surly bike joke here).

And if Derrick invites Keli I say we duck tape them together and drag them behind the bikes for awhile.

I'll complain a little more... My stupid ankle won't heal. If I'm really really good to it for the next three weeks and do everything the physical therapist says, I might be able to make it on this trip that I really really want to go on!
Sooo, if I'm physically able to make it on this bike riding, camping extravaganza then you can count me in.
If not I'll cry in my soup or beer or whatever all weekend.

Mmk. Chatted with Laura R about this last camping trip and heard there was car support! Or... potential car support. I don't think riding out would be smart, but I'm down to do car support soooo if someone else wants to drive... See, I don't have a car.
But like I said, I want to come camping. So the word is now out. Anyone want to drive?

You have an excellent knack at picking weekends that I'll be out of town! I was in Philadelphia for Monte Cristo and I'll be in Portland/Vancouver that weekend for another wedding.
There is a lot of camping up there and the "trail" up is just an old road that would be easy to bike.
I think the hot springs kinda suck though. I love good hot springs, but the only time that I was at Olympic Hot Springs the pools were lined with floor mats from old cars. Gross!
