I've camped and soaked at goldmeyer, and I agree it's really nice, but would it really be appropriate for a bunch of rowdy .83-ers? Don't they usually try to limit the number of people camping to less than 10? and encourage a quiet, restful atmosphere?
I love that place and I just wouldn't want to upset them.

This would be more like riding and then partying than full-fledged camping, but just a thought:
This guy I know who's a professor of religion at University of Puget Sound, Stuart Smithers, has a farm in Arlington where they do retreats of one sort or another. On 9/8, they are having a fundraiser, celebration in honor of the Pataphysical New Year (more info on that at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pataphysical); anyway, it's an old dairy farm on the Stillaguamish river with loads of room to set up tents and even plenty of covered areas to do so if it rains.
I guess the farm hosts a party that night 9/8, with food and drink (I believe there is a suggested donation) and lots of people stay over anyway rather than driving back to Seattle.
Anyway, I proposed a bunch of drunken bike riders crashing the party and crashing at the farm and he seemed open to the idea.
The ride up there is pretty sweet; you get to Snohomish somehow (a couple of options), then you're on the Centennial trail for about 20 miles, then another about 10 miles on country roads.
I've done it a couple of times; it takes me about six hours from Seattle.
Just another data point, grist for the mill...

For those who haven't noticed, i've got a thread started for an October trip.
Thanks Trev, you and your army of cleaning midget pandas are a force to be reckoned with. Go over to his thread and start giving some input all you choad-munchers!
Since it looks as if we might be losing momentum for the September shennanigans, let's get some good discussion going again.
After all, early Sept usually has the best hiking weather of the year around here so let's not let that go to waste. If this month is any indication, we're heading into a gray, damp drizzle hell until next July where warmth and light are but dim memories to provide us succor as we huddle in our mildew encrusted caves, gnawing on femurs or something.
There's that farm camping and some good looking hikes have been suggested. Let's look at those and discuss.
Allow me to chip in this for a suggestion: Leavenworth
It's easy access, has lots of hiking and camping, rock climbing and making fun of the locals who have to dress up in Lederhosen.
The Devil's Gulch ride is a fabulous, if somewhat technical ride and there's lots of other local rides if people don't feel comportable with that. (A hard frame with decent tirescan do Devil's gulch just fine, the only hitch is that most of it is on sidehills and there's some pretty serious exposure in sections.)
http://moishelettvin.blogspot.com/2006/08/singlespeed-devils-gulch.html
There's lots of bike traffic so the local wheeled traffic is less clueless than usual.
If we go here, out secret goal is to get Ben and Derrick drunk enough to wear Lederhosen and get into a yodelling contest.
Bonus points if indecencies with an underage cuckoo clock are involved.[/url]

Don't believe the hype...I think the main intent of this thread was to get a date set aside, so what if the thread simmers for a few days. This is still a few weeks out, it is going to happen, we will firm up a destination. Planning for an October date simultaneously is fine but still even further away from happening.

Yeah, but if our plans are going to involve any USFS campgrounds and a group site, we'd better start doing some serious groupthink.
Both Eightmile and Bridge Creek up Icicle Canyon are already booked up for all the weekends out into October. Everyone and their grandmother's dog also seem to have the same idea about getting their last licks in before the damp.
As far as I can tell, there's a pretty large consensus for the 8-9th. Location seems to be what's left to decide.
Yeah, we can wait until the week of to pick a spot and I guess that helps with indecision as lots of choices will be cut off for us. However, I'd rather be a little proactive and make a decision based on what everyone wants to do rather than picking through what's still available at the last minute.

Fair 'nuff.
I've got no worries we'll find someplace. And truth be told, the specifics really don't matter too much anyways - get enough of the right people together and and a trailer of beer and we could camp in the middle of the King County landfill and probably still have a damn good time.
Conversely though, I can't really think of any compelling reasons to not start figuring it out. Half the folks so far are 'Meh, wherever, just pick a place.' and the other half have already put out some good suggestions.
Of course, if you guys already have sup3r s3kr3t l337 planz (or equivalent) in the making, then by all means, go for it!

Here's the scoop on the Smoke Farm event; it is $25.00, but it's for a good cause and food is included. FWIW, I'm gonna go, probably leaving around 9:00 on that Saturday morning. If anybody else is game for this, or if this turns out to be the preferred option for "camping," then we can probably get some sort of price break.
PATAPHYSICAL NEW YEAR CELEBRATION
Saturday 12:00PM September 8th — Sunday 1:00PM September 9th
The Rubicon Foundation invites you to join us on SEPTEMBER 8th at Smoke Farm for the second annual arts festival at our 365 acre “un”farm. Located an hour’s drive from Seattle on the north fork of the Stillaguamish river, Smoke Farm is once again hosting a multidisciplinary art, dance, and performance extravaganza with a curated dinner in the fields. There will be a bonfire and camping out under the stars.
Curators:
Sean Ryan, dance and performance
Juniper Shuey, visual art
Jason Kopec and Jason Fitzgerald, music
and
Garrett Abel, food
Includes admission, a full day of art, Saturday evening dinner, and camping on the grounds. Please visit our website at http://smokefarm.org/pataphysical.html for more information about schedule, directions, artists, and performers.
If you have questions or need additional information, please email us at: info@smokefarm.org
(LOGISTICS)
Please purchase tickets in advance or we can’t guarantee you dinner!
Parking is limited, carpooling is strongly encouraged.
Smoke Farm is a rustic environment in the wet northwest, so please come prepared for the weather.
The celebration and performances will last into the night, we encourage you to bring a flashlight and warm clothing whether or not you are camping at the farm.
If you are planning on visiting the river bring a bathing suit and towel.
If you plan on camping at the farm for the night, consider coming before 1:00 PM to find your spot in the field near the barn. There will be port-a-potties nearby and limited water access.
Dinner will be provided Saturday night to advanced ticket purchasers and as many others as possible, and you will be able to purchase drink tickets for wine and beer at an evening cash bar. You may wish to bring a snack for Sunday morning if you plan on spending the night.
Leave no trace. We hardly need to mention it – friends of Smoke Farm have always embraced a "leave-no-trace" ethic when visiting the farm and we're looking forward to another trace-less festival.
The farm is at the end of the road and the closest town is 20 minutes away.

I just found out that a good friend of mine will have some artwork showingat this farm shindig and also that there will be a bonfire that at present is about 50' in diameter. I don't think a faction of pointythrees could scare the hosts no matter how hard they tried. I mean no offense, but most of you are pretty tame when it comes to lewd behavior.
I'm in, well maybe...

I am leaning more towards wilderness proper, small bonfire with a handful of .83ers that actually make it.
Summer weekends are like tokens and I seem to be miserly with how I spend them.

While i don't have a specific suggestion i'd like to vote for going up as we can go to saltwater destinations year-round, but the mountains get cold.
I'm sure when BtAG gets back he'll have some thoughts. Probably involving the words "fucking ", "you people", and "I'm gonna goddamn kill each and every one of"
I have to go and pick up that asshole BEN at the airport tonight. While he was gone I ate his food, drank his beer and booze. That will teach him to leave me his keys. I would have invited all of you but i'm a selfish prick.
Goldmyeyr would be good but I don't think we would all be able to camp there. We could camp down river from there. that way we could leave all of our shit at camp and ride most of the way to the hotsprings empty. Ben and I took our mountain bikes back there a couple months ago, It was hard but doable. It would be a chalenge on skinny tires. it would make getting to the springs that much more rewarding. The back to camp for brain cell KILLING. MAY BE WE SHOULD KILL GOD DAMN BEN

Patience Sketchy, patience, you want to kill Ben after he's hauled the booze up to camp.
I like the idea of Goldmeyer but I still think it would be a choice late season ride - nothing like having to deal with drizzle and shit all the way up to make the hot springs all the more appreciated.

So many choices:
Olympics
Middle Fork (Ben Country redux)
Tenenaway
Lost Lake (sounds interesting)
For no driving just riding
Seattle,Kingston,Port Gamble, Walk in camp at Kitsap Memorial, Poulsbo for Breakfast, Seattle
so many choices
My vote? Kingston Loop
Middle Fork
Lost Lake
in no order

Talked to Ben on Thursday, he said if we drive or take bus to Fall City the roads are good from there to middle fork.
Mike is camping at the Dosiwalups(sp) this weekend (a 70 mile trip by bike).
I say we do a Ben Country redux edited version from Fall City to Middle Fork.
What do you say?

One of my best friends is having his bachelor party this Saturday, I'm out. Grr.
On the upside, I just picked up a great little book of Cle Elum area rides/hikes and just about all of them are open bike access. If anyone wants to borrow it, let me know.

Hey you, on the computer. Camping is still going down next weekend. Destination will be along the the Middle Fork Snoqualmie Rd, East of North Bend. ~35 miles from down town Seattle depending how far out we decide to go.
If we ride all the way from Seattle on Saturday the meet up will be in the region of 8:00am. There are murmurings of a Friday night departure possibly too. We may also ferry (bus or car) to Issaquah to cut off some of the boring part.
Chime in if you are coming.
If you can't, fine, we'll see you next time, no need to say it in 5 posts though.

Chime! This might be a fairly easy ride too. How far up Middle Fork road will we go, and is it gravel or no? I plan on bringing a sleeping bag and pillow, and the weather looks like it'll be suitable for just that if I can't mooch of someone to get a tent.

The ride has ups and downs, the middle fork road turns to gravel and we may go further up than previously.

I guess what I was trying to say was that if I can't strike a deal with someone with a tent before Friday, I will plan on sleeping outside in my sleeping bag.
