Let me start out by saying that i'm nothing but impressed with peoples efforts to put together some advocacy efforts. Good work on all fronts!
However, It seems odd how few .83 folks came out last night. I know me and Chris cut off early to drink beer and eat fried potatoes.
Riding up and down Stone Way just isn't fun. At all.
There must be something we could do that would make a statement and be at least a little fun and creative. If we just want to have a horrible snoozefest on bikes couldn't that be something CBC organized?
Perhaps when we deliver our letters to city hall we ought go dressed as pirates. Or ninjas. (I am a neutral party!!) Or maybe we could stage a brief pagent portraying the sad plight of the pedestrian on Stone Way ... in the middle of the street during rush hour.
I'm just saying, a little bit of lightheartedness wouldn't hurt things too much people. And who knows, maybe we could even cause a bit o' havoc.

Ideas:
1) Everyone wear a suit and tie! and pretend to be a lawyer and threaten to sue everyone randomly a lot. Carry fake subpoenas with ride information on them. Wear fangs.
2) ride in formation, like, 2 by 2 10' apart front to back taking up an entire lane, be very precise and organized, and then make a bike pile in front of the mayors office. Serve cookies and tea until they are gone.
3) play capture the flag, In downtown. on bikes.
4) everyone wear cowboy hats and bandannas. I don't know why, but that sounds like fun.

Fine with me, Henry. I believe Nova is calling for a planning meeting on Sunday. Come join us and tell us how to make things more fun. And maybe by then we'll have Google Documents figured out (thanks to anonymous guy on the ride who suggested this).
On a sad note, I learned that Ride in the Rain is a UW-only thing. So my new dream is to get the elected officials of the City of Seattle to all ride in that Commute Challenge thing in May. How? Through a series of ridiculous stunts that probably will not work, but will definitely involve bikes and are hopefully fun. Come listen to my half-assed ideas.
By the way, you forgot Santa suits.

Speaking of Santa, we could tell people to come dressed as someone who delivers things:
Bike Messenger
Mail carrier
Santa
Stork
Obstetrician or midwife
That FTD guy
...
I like the suit and tie idea, too. Preferably followed by a game of capture the flag.

All good plans, and it's been ever-so-long since I got to dress in boi-drag like a suit n tie.
Wait no wait, what if we all dressed up in skinny girls pants and big plastic-framed glasses? Like um...some kinda Seattle kids or something? And then we rode in formation, played capture the flag in Suzie Burke's living room, and then served cookies and tea from the Fremont Chamber of Commerce?
And oh yes, Sunday, kids. Afternoon, evening? I suggest we find a place with cookies and wifi and meet there.

That's like half of point 83 already.
People take you more seriously when you're in a suit.
F.Y.I. City hall has a very nice rooftop deck, as well as a nice deck overlooking 4th avenue, with tables and chairs!

More like half of Seattle and 83% of the Hill crowd.

i think the tea party would be by far the awesomest. combine that with dressing like proper ladies and gents out for a polo match and i don't see how it could be made of anything but win.

I have a full ninja suit, and I'm not afraid to wear it anywhere. That is all I'm going to say.
Then again, that shit can get really hot.

I know the point is to hit it when traffic might be highest, but that also means a lot of people can't go, cause they are working, or prohibitively far away when they leave work. I can't make a 5pm ride at gasworks, ever on a weekday, or I would have been there. even 6 is doable sometimes, but eariler is hard for a lot of folks.

no one understands that more than I...as a 9am to 8 pm worker in Bothell.
i'm just sidin with henry here...we hade what, 25 or 30 folks at the most? Hell I saw as many folks pass us as were involved.
Point being if we want this to be effective then we need to be more creative...and thats the ider.

Is 5pm-6pm even really peak traffic for this road? I've seen stone way be pretty busy in the late morning, maybe more than in the evening commute window. Many of the light industrial businesses there shut down at 5pm or so, and the garbage trucks seem to only appear in the mornings. There's also what looks like construction-truck traffic in the morning.
Does anybody know the details of the Cascade count, specifically what time of day it was done?

The measurements were taken on a Thursday evening from 4:30pm-6:30pm in 15 minute increments at the corner of Stone Way and 36th. My understanding is that this was done to match SDOT's measurement technique (with the exception that SDOT only measures for 15 minutes in that time period and multiplies by 4).
Cascade will be out again next month. I was out helping with the last count and if I hear about it, I will let y'all know when the next count is going to happen.

Yeah but to be fair, the only time anyone ever sees you is when you show up to the Greenlake race to get your penis stroked.
Last time that I did the Greenlake race, you beat me...but not in the penis stroking way.
