(clairified for the whiners) Instead of meeting at Rattlesnake, drive up to exit 38, go about 1.5 miles to FSR 9020 (fork in the road...go right!). Up the dirt road about 3/4 miles to where the trail crosses the road.
We'll load up my truck with the big and heavies to come later and follow this route.
We can meet and lunch and poop at hyak, and there are lots of stops for munchies and drinks once we cross I-90.
distance is roughly 55 miles, mostly flat.
The camp spot is held, firewood is ready, and i'll bring a HUGE fucking tarp for the rain. There is a great bar in Roslyn we can stop for drinks, and a few okay restaurants that we can get a full, warm belly of chow.
The weather today was fucking BEAUTIFUL, as was the scenery!! It's chilly, but no snow...and those who know eastern wa, know what happens on the west side of the mountains doesn't always happen on the east side. It was dry and a bit windy, but we may avoid any wetness until Sunday.
I'm stoked for this ride after being up there...it's so damn pretty right now...bring cameras and camp chairs, as theres nothing to sit on at camp. Bring warm clothes, booze, safety equiptment, and something to eat breakfast on/with. I've got water, stoves, coolers, a bob trailer and a extra tent.
See you big ballers @ 8am...rain or not!

I am way down for this.
I still think that we should plan something for September but early Oct is an excellent time to ride the JWT.
I hit the trail about that time a couple years ago and the trees are all turning colors or smelling really good - kind of like one of those pine tree car air fresheners except much less nasty and prone to giving you headaches.
I'm throwing down for the first weekend but anytime that doesn't go too close to Halloween is good by me.

PS: I concur, the Brick is teh aw3som3. Also, don't forget the Rosyln brewing company, they have a great pair of beers they brew up in town there.

My question is this: When did you fight Henry?
In terms of dates, October is flexible! I have no real preference at this point.

I'm in just to go through a 2 and 1/2 mile tunnel. Sorry no yarn, did yarn one and it was fun, but camping no contest.

Agreed. Camping wins over Yarn Rides in this rock-paper-scissors game of what to do on the weekend of Oct 6/7th.

TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

True, but on these forums, I was figuring that something like the Russian Dictionary of Obscenities would end upbeing much handier.
(did you know Russians have an adjective that implies that the subject of said adjective is not only covered in shit, but covered in runny shit? I have such profanity envy of them...)

Yeah, I was psyched about the yarn ride II, revenge of yarn ride but a camping trip up the Iron horse is FTW, I'm afraid.
PS: Trev, do you know what sort of tentative schedule it's gonna have? Do we depart Friday or Saturday and is it a one or two night trip?

After the photoshoot "crashing" there was alot of discussion about this, and the consensus is to do it the first weekend of Oct.
...and yes, that means it's getting fully cockblocked by the Yawn, i mean, Yarn Ride.
So it looks like you fuckers get to choose...drunken camping shennigans weekend or knitting.
And then you went over to my house and stole my bike, right?
And Pete Jr. was right. Even yarn turns into a penis in your mind!
yep...that was me...i replaced the wheels with pretzels and the chain and cables with spaghetti. the handle bar is a long baguette and the seat a cinnamon roll.
i'll call it the snackercycle.

no solid schedule as of yet...thats the beauty of this being a month + away.
Depending on how folks feel (and the weather...duh, it will be Oct) we can do a single or dual niter. Although i'd really rather a single night as that will help eliminate the need for multiple trips into town for/the need to haul food, water, liquor, corndogs, ect.
But i'd like peps feedback on this.
either way, i think a staging @ rattlesnake at 10 am should give folks PLENTY of time to get to our destination with PLENTY of stops. Although i'd be happy pushing thru with one stop in Cle Elum to get supplies, I doubt that will happen (thinking back to Ben Co 2). Saftey meetings, beer testing, mechaincals, swimming shenanigans...ya know..fun shit like that.

That sounds like a good plan to me as well. My personal preference would be to meet at the trailhead earlier but 10 should work just fine.
There's some good short hikes in the area if people are feeling their oats when we get there or on Sun morning.

this can totally start earlier. lord knows i'll be full on into at 4:30 am wakeup pattern by this trip. i could torture y'all and call a 6am start...but i think id be riding alone then.

OK, I was just up in Roslyn today and indeed, 903 all the way from Cle Elum to Roslyn is brand new and smooth as glass. If we decide to cut a corner and head straight out from Roslyn to the JWT on the way back, it's pretty awful, the road's just been ground down and is squirrelly to even drive on.
I also picked up a book of Cle Elum area hikes and almost all of them have bike access. If folks are up to it, I'm sure we could bag a quick local peak while we're there.
As for early starts, I used to do lots of mountain climbing where we'd be shivering our asses off in the trailhead parking lot in the pitch dark at 0400 so anytime you want works for me.
PS: I might have a couple lamer non-biker friends that want to join at Salmon La Sac. Let me know what the car-based plans are so I can coordinate with 'em.

I'm in. I know an excellent camping area up on the bluffs south of town. I've thrown 500+ people outdoor raves at this site, I think it would contain us nicely. Sunrise bluffs, no water, no facilities. Tons of grassy camping in scrub pine forest with double-track that would be fine for even teh 23cm crowd given they have Marathon Plus tires.

Langsty,
That sounds good but which town is it South of - Cle Elum or Roslyn? The only concern I'd have would be the lack of water but we can always car port that in.

just south of Cle Elum. Take the first exit, turn right and ride until I say stop. Definatly a ride for a sag wagon.

...i dunno dewd, I would really, REALLY, like to be by water! With all the dishes to wash, people to wash, ect. The need to rehydrate, take a crap on a porta, and not make constant trips into town (= $$$), and personally...i'd rather listed to a river at night that a dozen + snoring, stinky bikers.
i'd ride a few extra miles to get that.
And it's not like theres a lack of camping spots...fuc, the whole damn area is like a giant camping resort.

After the long ride this weekend, how about we try finding a place along the Yakima River East of Easton, not as far as Salmon Le Sac, Ros? Break out the maps!

worth considering, although i'm not as familiar with that area, i'l ask my buddy who grew up there if he knows of some good places.
the nice thing about that whole area is that its campground heaven.
<edit>
there are no camp grounds in that area Ro, so says my buddy who grew up there.
however, on the north side of 90 there ia a river that is worth consideration. It s close enough to some stores and easily accessable for SAG wagons. I'll look into that as a possible site area.
Ro, are ya feeling a bit yonkered after this weekends ride???

Eh, I think we should stay with the original plan. It doesn't make much sense to ride 30 miles uphill and then limit our camping options by skipping 10 miles of flat riding at the end.
Roslyn's a fun little town with bars and a bike shop and there's ample biking and hiking up in the Salmon la Sac area. The road from Cle Elum to Roslyn is as smooth as a saucer of water and has a good shoulder.
If we can find something comparable at Easton, I'd be open to it but having camped once in the area (and had a bunch of stuff ripped off from the campground) I wasn't too impressed.

Easton is a NO GO for this group. My source tell me its a state park with a ranger that lives by the shoot first, ask questions later mantra...especially with hippies or anything thats even moderately hippyish.
Foo is correct. once off the JWT the ride will be chill (the reason i chose this). The Salmon la Sac river is going to be REAL nice when we get there...fresh, cool and shallow...it WILL be worth the few extra miles. We will not have to worry about anything. i'm really trying to avoid camping at the lakes this time of year...theyre low, muddy, smelly and full of garbage (damn redneks), anf the water quailty aint fit for shit.
i know yalls taints are sore after the last ride, but this is likely the final chance to ride-n-camp, so lets make it a good show.

---I aggree about sticking wit hthe O.P. I was at the mountain bike festival in Roslyn last month and I agree about the majority of the roads between Cle Elum and Roslyn to be smooth. Although, the further up the road the more bumpy it gets. Camping is beautious however, and hopefully the river is still ragin' for some bridge jumping!
