Official stance from the Order of Me: Simmer down folks. Be nice. I'm not going to delete anything, it's against the .83 way. You can feel free to go edit anything on there. Password is "derricksucks" if anyone doesn't know.

If somebody has said something mean about you it might indicate some other problem that the two of you should address and work out.

Thanks, but I will be pickling these beans! It's a P1ckle Party in my kitchen. Yep.

Talk about assertive corndogs... what does this forum have against the singular form of the word "pickles?"

Certain foods are banned from the forum. I'll update the TOS.

Somebody edited Aaron's original post to the point of silliness. I think I may have been the only person who saw it, though Happy Stick Person, Pete Jr., and one other were signed in at the time and may have seen it too.

Yeah i think derrick edited some posts, he's the primary vegitabler.

Aaron's original post is saved in the RSS feed, he basically just wants the wiki taken down, but does think that this club needs a "Conditions of Participation" that dictates things like pace. I respectfully disagree.

as a pretty new newcomer, i kind of like that .83 seems anarchic and mean to newbs. but i'm also kind of a dick.

Aaron is far from a noob, but some members can't keep their personal differences personal. I don't like seeing anyone get ripped excessively or repeatedly. We're not here to like each other per se, but to STFU and ride.

Oh yeah - that wasn't clear -- his original post mentioned being less dickish toward newbs as a specific area in which there is room for improvement, and that's what i was referring to. venomous infighting is always crap. too bad it's such a vague term.

also i missed today's ride so i have to get my youthful energy out SOOOOOMEHOWWWWWWW

I was friends with another group which held this means of seperating the wheat from the chaff in social circles. We called it Social Darwinism, but it was first coined in 1947. Regardless, it does sort out the people without the mustard to make it in a group like this. Sure, we drive off some people too, but we aren't trying to soften up the group. Besides, if you do get driven off, it's worth asking what that sort of person would have contributed if they had stayed.

As a newcomer I can see how people might mistakenly believe that .83 is mean. However, having rode with the group for the first time this last thursday, I was super surprised with how welcoming everyone was. Now if only I could remember all the names of everyone who introduced themselves...

I suppose the key to the online version of the group is to not take it seriously. Especially some of the terms of the tos.

yeah. i rode with the group before i saw the website and i think that made some difference. people are pretty nice in person even if the rides are crazy sometimes.

what were you riding? i vaguely recall meeting you at some point in the night...

I would say that from my experience that you absolutely should not take anything in the online forum seriously, per the "Greater internet dickwad" theory and the obvious fact that there's a lot of people here who are not busy at work all day.

Also, the TOS is a great big fuckin joke.
You can read some of the threads referred to in this post for background:

sweet...some drama that doesnt involve ME!

Aaron...comeon man, grow the fuck up, we're all just screwing around. have you still not figured out how to take a joke? damn dewd. the only reason i can think that youd be seriously bent is if this stuff were, uh, true? gotta stop being so serious all the time...makes ya seem old and crotchety.

maybe a trip to the octagon is in order? two may enter, one may leave.

3...nothing, i repeat, NOTHING said here is worth two squirts of pee (unless it is about planning or fixing sompthing). figure out who can take shit (not aaron, obviously) and have fun in this asscanal.
as far as noobs being harrased, mocked, ridiculed ect...consider it a stamina test. cause if ya cant take a shot here, you certainly wont have any fun on a ride. we all give and take shit (cept aaron, who has a sensitive vagina). just come ride bikes and have fun.

veggies...i have so many roma tomatoes that the 2 planst are screaming for me to pick em, even tho their not ripe yet. i'm gonna save quite the batch of sun dried toms come winter. can i get a HELL YEAH!?! Maybe extras for the x-mas party...yeah, i said it.

Mmmm, veggie hijack....

I feel your pain man, my plants have broken most of the bamboo stakes I had them on this year. Just one week of hot weather, that's all i ask, I really don't need 100 pounds of green tomatos.

I buy my tomatoes at safeway. Grown in California, processed in Mexico and packaged in China!! Whoot!!!

Not really.

I did actually just get a huge amount of local, organically fed beef. I should have a bbq.

No he's a guy about {holds his hands about as high as his own head] yea tall, brown hair, with a propensity to hack the internet by day and rap about it by night. Famous for his hit single "I'm a muthafuckin' rubyist".

Rails 4 Life, G.

OK, I guess Q is a more common moniker than I thought.

PS: I think your BBQ idea is filled to the brim with merit.

100 pounds of green tomatoes picked before the frosts come and stored somewhere dry = 95 pounds of ripe tomatoes from Halloween to Christmas (roughly).

That is, unless you get late blight, which is quite the possibility this year. Keep the fruit off the ground.

yeah, no kidding!!

thanks for the reminder.

I'm hoping this week of good weather will push the ripening into full steam, else i'm gonna do my granddaddies trick of brown bagging 'em to force 'em red. It works, but i'd rather ma nature does it for me.

I have a old dehydreator thats gonna see some serious action shortly. If any of you growers want to dry stuff we can consider setting up something. it's only a 5 tray'er, but it does the job in 24 hrs or less.

Yeah, I'd pull the 'maters off the ground but my attempts yesterday just ended up breaking vines. The squash managed to get its spiny little tendrils infiltrated in there when I wasn't looking and the combined weight destroyed my whole staking system. Oh well, I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I'll definately take up any drying offers, I've got uber peppers that need drying and grinding at the end of this season.

well i'll keep the option on the table for now, since it is a 2 part process.
