That's excellent. That was so in the dumpster. I ate it, and it was good.

Ahhhh, the chocolate dumpster... You know, I hadn't been there yet. Good stuff!
To be honest, last night's ride was the best ride I can remember having in months! The vibe was really a good one. We had the ladies and some of the newer guys lead us out of downtown into georgetown. Then Daniel took the lead and led us to the chocolate dumpster. From there we had a quick stop to pick up some Coffee Beans for Daniel then it was back uptown to Seattle Center for a "velodrome" race in the international fountain. After that we went somewhere a point 83 ride has never gone: The Top of Queen Anne Hill! Everyone fucking rocked it up that hill too! Next was a little tour of all the scenic overlooks on the hill before we rode on to Greenlake and finally stopped briefly at Duck Island and then called it a night.
It was oldschool .83 and it was glorious. We didn't plan our route around bars, or convinience stores. Beers materialized on the ride, but no one had to enact any other biking club's rules to tell them when to finish it. Everyone was so excited to just keep riding! I think the longest stops we made were waiting for people to fix their flats. I was stoked listening to people make suggestions on what we area we should ride to next and we flew off in that direction. We even had a solid mix of bikes on the ride, with a mountain bike, fixed gears, road bikes, touring bikes, and racing bikes. And for the first time in a long time it appeared that everyone talked to everyone on the ride. It wasn't just communication between cliques of people, or only when we stopped, but the whole time during the ride. The new riders, the old riders, everyone made a point to know each other's names, and just have fun. Thanks to everyone who made the ride happen! You guys fucking rock!
And that was a FUCKING AWESOME RIDE!

Sounds awesome, I wish I could have been there. To your credit, I heard you eventually stopped after ditching three quarters of the group. We had one of the best recent rides as well, albeit with some longer stops. Cruised over to mercer and then back to town through the central dist.

So, I missed another ride and missed the fabled chocolate dumpster as well? This has been a week of disappointment to say the least.
I was at work last night, disk array down, multiple fried hard drives, no disaster recovery, sketchy tape backup. Just picture a lot of bargain basement hardware not working. I could go on but I'll spare you all and vent the tech/politics stuff on some other forum.
So, did you guys bomb right up QA Ave or zig-zag upward? I've never done a straight shot up the hill.

This morning when I came into work, I left a piece of dumpster chocolate on each of my coworker's desks. After giving them time to munch it, and think how kind I was to bring Friday yummies, I emailed the group denny's pictures.
gotta watch my back now though, revenge is a bitch

Yeah, I bet it sucks to be in Rich's shoes this morning. We went up the "easy" way, by counterbalance, then, uh, somebody who knows QA should fill in the rest of the details.

I think I would have prefered our ride to going to the chocolate dumpster and then Queen Anne. I had never ridden to Mercer Island before and it was a lot of fun. I don't know where all of this talk of not stopping on the old school point83 rides keeps coming from, but I remember us stopping all the time and our two stops last night wern't any longer than the ones on the old rides.. though they were much shorter than the ones lately.
Our pace was pretty awesome too. We had our fast moments, and our slower moments and the best part was that most everyone kept up (I didn't see Kori later on.. sorry if we dropped you) and everyone had fun. Any idea as to how far we went?
After the CD we went through part of Cap Hill and bombed down Denny.. now THAT was fun! That was the first time since losing my fixed gear that I didn't miss it.. I think I may have to run a brake on it after all once I get it back, just for occasions like that..
And then getting kicked out of the Seattle Center thanks to the group of bikers that had been there before us, haha. And then vegie chillie cheese dogs before heading to U district to split up and go our ways.
While I would have liked to hang out with some of the kids in the faster group, I had a couple new-to-point83 friends in the slower group who's company I much much prefer to some of the kids in the other, so I was more than happy to hang back. Not that we didn't end up hauling ass at times anyway, hah.
Except that Henry kid. He can go to hell. With a horse cock in his ear.
And ECD is on the back shelf.. for now.

We took a right off olympic after it went downhill for a short stretch, went up a fairly steep residential street and ended up on 8th.

I'm wondering when exactly we lost y'all. It's not like we hit some big hill climb, or were going exceptionally fast. We were going downhill, man! My only guess is that there was either consensus that people didn't _want_ to keep up, or preferred to do their own damn thing... or we blew through a stop light and y'all never caught up
y'all should start a nice slow social riding group; .84

Aaron and i were riding between the two groups trying to keep both groups in eyesight and finally stopped along 4th right after the Spokane Street Bridge when it became clear that it was not meant to be a group ride. Then someone (Joby i think) suggested that we ride to Mercer Island and the rest is history.
I think we offended some suburbanites by being sweaty in QFC.

My understanding is we got split up after the stadium. Still enjoyed the ride though. I've been to the dumpsters before, but I'd never been to Mercer, much less ridden my bike across I-90. I do wish we had gotten there earlier in the day and done the loop, but it was still quite enjoyable.

i'm not exactly the slowest member of the group, but the pace down 4th was pretty intense, you might not have noticed as much due to the draft effect. i chilled between the two groups for quite a while, eventually at a light i think seth rolled back to meet up with them and i ran the light and caught up with you guys at dawson. i was close enough to see the front group go over the railroad bridge, i think those behind me turned and continued up to mercer island since they were way back there.

We had a flat that took a couple min to fix, and when it became clear that the front of the pack had no intrest in this, we decided to go our own way.
And Henry? BITE ME YOU NOODLE NOGGIN! GO CRY TO YOUR MOMMA!

It's not that we didn't care, or wouldn't have stopped. It was probably that no one setting pace (we were rolling 5-wide down 4th ave) knew what happened to y'all. I think the first thing we got was Matt (?) calling Jake an asshole, saying that y'all would be riding up to MI instead.
At least thats what I was aware of. We had two or three flats along the way last night, and stopped each and every time. As much as it is the faster riders' responsibility to set a pace that everyone can at least try for, it is the responsibility of the slower riders to stay in contact, or keep up.

The split at the stadium was unfortunate but it sounds like both groups kept it real. I'm glad that instead of focusing on the split-up the second group simply made its own plan. It worked out really well an going across I-90 was a first for several of us.
I got to give props to the dude on the mountain bike. I honestly didn't expect him to keep up but he did. He looked a little rough though towards the end.
Also the guy on the Schwinn Collegiate kicked ass. I need to resurrect the Leviathon!

We stopped at 4th and Dawson long enough for me to contemplate opening a beer, then consume it.
I was on the back of the fast group, and guess I was more concerned with keeping up than slowing the group down to stay together.

dean, thanks for your concern. :D it was a decision to ride another way. sidewalks and a string of riders not together just wasn't what i wanted to do last night (while sick).
glad you guys had a fun time, though.

It's obvious that the front group wasn't really "faster", much of that group is quite a bit slower than some of the kids in the rear group. The "old school .83" wasn't all about hauling ass everywhere, you know. Yeah we were quick, but we would tone it down a little if there were slower kids. We wouldn't cruise along or anything, but we didn't haul ass with the "They'll either keep up or call us" mind set, that's for sure. The kids who wern't getting thier speed/milage fix had Sunday rides for that, but after the STP came and left, they gave up on it and decided to fuck with Thursdays instead.
It doesn't matter though. Apparently "y'all" guys had fun, and I know we did, so all is well.

Ah, sounds like my usual route (when I need to get up the hill anyway), up and around, over cobblestones and eventually you level out a few blocks down from Trader Joes, at least that's the way I go.
Next week should be interesting.

Yea, I was kinda pissed everyone split. But the ride I was on was fun too. And from the sounds of it, the other group rocked it as well.
I would like to say, looking back, I don't think we needed to stop (the back half) when we did. It was kind of hard to be sure if the people were going to be there if we kept going south, but we probably would have been able to catch/find. We DO have ways of contacting people, like when Joby got split off and Dean called him up. And when I called Jake to call him an asshole :)
No hard feelings, no foul. We'll ride again thursday. 7 more days till CHAOS.

Here is my take on it.
I was at the "Secret Meeting" when Jake said we are a "road bike club" well let me tell you , last night was more like a no-regroup, no-map provided Cascade ride. AND, there were a few mountain bikes too. The new guy Jeff on the mountain bike really rocked and on knobbies! When we left Westlake, the consensus I heard, and a lot of others said they did to, sure as hell was Mercer Island. As soon as we left it was obvious that the the head of the group (Jake) was trying to loose the others. I mean a turn every block, not regrouping going thru the bottle neck at the stadium parkinglot? WTF? I go on .83 rides to ride with people, not hammer myself to death and ride by myself. I like to keep it together and take a lane (CM style). I could have easily rode fast with you jerks but I had friends in the "slow" group too. I was pretty pissed last night. But once us slow-pokes stopped and the flat was fixed I was happy we were going to the agreed upon location. If we are going to just blow off fast from Westlake it might be nice to know where we are going so we ALL can arrive there. Not all of us carry an electronic leash (cell phone) ya know.
I am all for heading off in any old direction, and that makes it fun, but only if we do it at a pace that all can ride. If we do not care about sticking together then for fuck's sake have a destination that everyone knows so we can all get there. Like the night we rode to Madison Park. Everyone knew where we were going and there were 2 groups buy we all go there and had a great time TOGETHER! None of us are that slow anyway. The guy on the green Schwinn with the big hair is even fast. That guy is cool! And if we need to slow the pace, just hit a hill so the fixies slow down. I got quite a work-out last night and the stops were short and refreshing. The "lunch-break" at the baseball diamond on Mercer Island was only about 30 minutes max.
Aaron's Suggested .83 Guidelines:
1. No one gets left behind, unless they want to.
2. Everyone waits for mechanicals and flats. If we know where we are going, someone can wait back and ride with the person, especially newbies.
3. Either we know a destination, or we stick together.
Secret Meeting Rules:
1. Ride fast, road bikes only
2. Turn often in an attempt to loose the newbies and slowbies (funny how all the newbies were in the "slow group"
3. No destination that way no one can meet up with us
4. Eat garbage
We are NOT a road bike club, we are a Fixie club if anything and we welcome all types of bikes. Even recumbents (Colin spincycle). Anyone on a bike is cool by me. Bikes are our glue. Save your off the front fast rides for the weekend. Want that? Go on a Cascade ride! If we are NOT a drinking club also, then take the fucking bottle opener out of the logo and replace it with a HORSECOCK!
Indeed, as Jake said, it was a classic .83 ride (funny how the term Classic applies to agroup that is less than 1 year old. And Old-School, wtf? It was just last year the group was formed. Mind you I was riding fixed gear around Seattle in 1988 when most of you were still plugging your Huggies.)
So apparently we need 2 .83 groups Fast Garbage Eaters and Slow-Poke Alcoholics.
Funny thing is you all are my friends and I want to ride with all of you.
I had a great time last night.

Aaron, I'm kinda the one who started the talk about Georgetown after talkign to a few people who knew and were concerned about a possible police presence. I did not, however, anticipate the group splitting like it did.
I still had fun, sounds like they did too.
Fuck it. Isn't the fun what matters?

So I've not been around for a while and it seems that no one can agree on anything.
The 'secret meeting' did not make these rules. This was obviously posted when you were angry. We agreed that the rides would be about riding. We have no intention of losing new people, because when the rides first started that's what it was. It was about riding.
Now that we're 40+ people we're slowing down and getting all upset and whiny.
Fuck it, I wasn't there for the ride but it seems like this is becoming a huge headache every time I go to the forum.
That's just my 2 cents. See you Thursday.
And for the love of god, those of you who spell losers with two o's. It's losers. Losers. Not loosers. It's grammar and it makes you look smart when you use it right.
edit: It also helps when you spell grammar correctly the first time.
