If I can't settle it outside of court, how much should I do?
Press charges for a hit-and-run, and sue them to small claims court

Press charges only

Do nothing, because it will cost more to go to court and to travel back to Oregon and back.

In my last day on my Oregon Trip, my bicycle got damaged in a hit-and-run. My bike was parked on a curb on a fence at a Dairy Queen. I went to the store next door, but as I come back, one of the customers says he witnessed my bike get backed into.
Thus far the damages include:
1. Ruined Helmet
2. Out of true back wheel
3. Probably bent frame
And after this while biking home, my rear deraileur exploded (although I was using too high of a rear gear). Anyways, I'm pretty pissed off. I've got a witness and a police report. The car was described to be a "White Lincoln" so it coulda been a careless old lady.
Nonetheless, I'm trying to recover some expenses and will try hard to settle all this outside court. But should I press charges for the Hit and Run just to make an example of this person in car-dominated Roseburg?
PS, I'll upload pics tomorrow.

Good news! I'm going to be getting compensation for the whole bicycle! As I said I'll post the pics now.

So, that means you got an ID on the driver, or are you being compensated by some other entity?

It's a good thing your head wasn't in it at the time... like mine was:

I did get a witness who provided me the license plate, and I got a police report. I think the mom of the (teenage) driver is sending me a check and then she will be reimbursed through her insurance.
