EDIT: got the help I need. thanks Misser Canary, sir!
Vera is my baby, an 80s shogun road bike that I've beat to hell in the past year and a half I've had her, travelling hither, thither, and beyond, as well as exploring the back-alleyways of the cities we've visited.
Now Vera and I are plotting a sojourn out to the Eastern seaboard to ride bikes, hobo it by the sea, and visit a pal who just took his dream-job out in Boston.
The problem: Vera's stem (the top of the quill, methinks is the words for it?) is stripped, and when I bought her from yon community bikeshop o'joys I didn't think it too big a deal because the handlebars are set about right and I'm barely a novice mechanic if that. But now that I have to put her on a train in a box, it is a very big deal if I can't loosen her handlebars.
Do you have the know-how to deal with strippage like this? A pedal wrench I can borrow long enough to umm, de-pedal her? Even better: a bike box?
Assist me and you will win: beer and/or food, my undying love, and a pleased as punch Miss Nova who will leave you alone for about two weeks.
I depart on Tuesday night (and work all day aforehand), but if you're free this weekend on Sunday or Monday and feel up to supplying assistance, please drop me a line or call me 425-259-0736.
