hey all,
it crossed my withered mind that we don't have any fun assed gear floating around. Aaron got us .83 mud flaps last year, but thats all i've seen. Maybe i'm a sentimental ole bastich, but i think with the horrorday season fast approaching, theres no time like the present to start getting some iders out there. Kat mentioned a Cross team...theres the FHR in Feb...prob
If any of y'all are into this (i know Langston was), sound off and we can go from there. I wont be out much as my work schedule changed drastically, but i'm willing to do some leg work to get this going. I've got a few (and i mean a FEW) links to places that can do some stuff, but maybe you kids have live, working relations with folks that can do this crapola too.
Also...if we get all this together in a timely fashion (yeah, fat chance, i know) we may be able to distribute it all out during Decembers Insane Party.
I've tallied up the jersey requests and have this:
seditious canary
derrick (L)
ro (black, L or XL)
alex (not black)
mike OD (L, blue, green or black)
henry (with design approval)
koos42 (black&blue)
abamfici (2?)
spealunker
eric s (L, red or blue)
keyholefish
BtAH
patrOck (XL , black)
7
me (TT)
Thats 16 so far (kevin going duce), I think this is a good start but lets see if we can reach 20+! i'll keep track of this and start the process with Portland Cyclewear, but I need a few things from you wankers (and do this thru PM, please.).
i need:
*your size (else i'm gonna order smalls and you can all look like Henry as Elvis.)
*what type of jersey style (get teh specifics from the site, ya lazy pukes).
*what color...see above...not what you DONT want.
*what you want on your jersey.
now this last one is gonna be fun, i know. If you want details on what flocking is look at his FAQs, but from what I know its softer than embroidery (and cheaper too). Also looking into the back messages. So I want to see what folks WANT, then we discuss what you'll get thru a group order.
i'm thinking "Point83" along the chest. maybe the logo above the heart, maybe something along the back ("this will all end in beers").
If you want a jersey, say so...here or PM. the order hasnt been made so theres still time.
We'll discuss $$$ procurement once teh details are clear. coo?
because that's what I want. $7.50 a piece, red and black, logo on the front, "Point83" on the bill, same or ".83" on the sides, something like "I <3 Beer" or "Let's Ride Bikes" on the back. PM me if you have any other kick ass design ideas or if you want some. I'll keep a list of who wants how many and start getting money from people at rides, when the time is right, I'll make the order.
...wanna hat, tell SEVEN

I'd like to get in on a group-order for a longsleeve wool custom Jersey. That'd be pretty sweet to commute in.

we've had patches in the past. ive been trying to find someone to teach me screen printing in order to make more. if anyone can sit me down and show me how to make a screen and get this done, ill buy supplies. couldnt make it to jeff's friends house the other day (he was doing printing and showing people)
i have two brand new point83 screened jerseys (red and blue). if anyone wants them, they are new and never used, but the ink is a tad faded. maybe ten bucks? i paid alot more for the jerseys.
but yeah, im game for making gear too.
stickers are pretty cheap, we could go to www.stickerguy.com and make some easily.

i'm thinking more along the lines of embroidered patches and jerseys. Screen prints are good for pirated rides and shit, but suckaball for longevity.

stickers! i want!
500 4.25" x 1.38" red, black, and white stickers is $50. i've got a $20 to put in the pot. it'd be trivial to just do the classic logo in red, black, and white, with the full stop sign bottom and everything.

I'm down.
For those who are inclined to get something a bit spendy and have a propensity for plastering their bike with glowing tacky crap, I'm planning on assembling one of these:
...and putting a monochromed version of the .83 logo into it. If anyone's interested, I could easily make some more for the kit cost and a beer or two.
PS: Aaron, do you still have any of those mudflaps in stock? The ones on my fenders are dead and I need replacements.

Heh, I just got my kit yesterday. I've put together two of the suckers so far, seems to take about two hours each, and I had no experience soldering. I'm planning on hacking the software some - seems like zoom and rotate effects would be easy to implement, so I'm hoping to get some tunnel effects.

using the "classic logo" is the ONLY way I was going to go.
hold onto yer 20 spot and we'll start a collection going.

Sweet - I haven't had a chance to work with the hardware yet but from the documentation, it seems that all that's required for movies and other effects is some software tweaks and a larger memory chip. I'll have to look and see what sort of flash ram 8-pin chip capacities there are out there.
I was toying with the idea of making a full-color version but the cost and complexity was prohibitive.

i
buy beer, some screen printing ink and come over some night. I have a couple screens but not enough to do anything too complex. I can do hand painted screens and stencils on the spot but photo emulsion takes some time to get setup.

yeah, photo emulsion was what i was going for. i was assuming it would be more exact than a hand painted job?
i can buy ink and screens and emulsion and anything we need. just need the expertise to show me.
PM me your number dave, i didnt save it. ill give you a ring about this and the spoke cards you have
thx!

hey chris, there is a cycling jersey place on lower stoneway, they might be a good first local place to check on pricing. im almost positive they do custom stuff like this as a big part of their business.

You mean the one I can ride to from my house holding my breath?
Yeah, I know about them, but I don't think they do wool. I have a few places in mind already. Frankly, it's going to be pricing and graphics which decide for us.

if you get two spokes rigged with different colors, you could just separate the graphic into two layers, that doesn't seem too hard, a little pricey though. They use a magnet to orient the image right?

The tricky part with that would be getting the emitters to line up. If the little GaAs chip in the LEDs don't line exactly up, you'd get more of a rainbow pattern rather than RGB - that could be a feature instead of a bug depending on the effect you are going for.

If we are going with Portland (or some other supplier) can we get jerseys somewhere for fitting purposes?
I want one, not in black, probably size large.

My impression (from his website only) is that he's pretty flexible. I imagine he'd be willing to send us sample, stock jerseys to try on and ship back to be embroidered. I'd like a 100% jersey, also not black. Maybe a red? I'm probably a medium. If ordering from Portland then I would be interested in a group buy for manpris as well.
Also, I've got an assembled spoke pov, still umounted because I can't figure out a good way to water proof it. Anyone have ideas? It is finally getting dark again and I'd like to throw it on the commuter. I think I've got an animated version of a space invader on it at the moment.

just a little note. when we get a point83 screen set up for screen printing, it will be easy to have everyone throw in a tshirt, jersey, or whatever to put the logo on. wont last as long as something embroidered, but should be pretty solid if we use good inks. and the benefit there is that we should be able to print on anything you hand over, fitted and sized to you
wool jerseys might not take a screen print though, not sure on that.
just FYI. sounds like we're looking into both options though so no worries.

Without having tried it, I'd guess that an epoxy that is thin enough when uncured to brush on and flexible enough after setting to not chip off the PCB would work pretty well.
Anything waterproof and clear should do the trick, I'd imagine.
I'm planning (when I get the kit) to just run some wires to a seperate battery pack that can be waterproofed and attach it to the hub. (batteries less likely to go shooting off the wheel if I hit a bump and less rotational inertia)

I don't care too much about my not black color, just not black. Most of the pants that I wear on my bike are black. Red is fine, blue is fine, green is fine. Pumpkin orange is one that I don't have.

A friend just encased his in silicon. Seems to work well, but makes modifications more difficult.

i just talked to dave (stickperson) about screenprinting. im going to buy everything needed to make a screen and hes going to walk me through it in a week or twoish. going to make a 6x6 inch logo that we will be able to print on most anything.
ill do an initial set up and punk patch print, then if anyone wants anything made, let me know and bring it to me and we'll get it all set. screenprinting will be great for bags, tshirts, patches, etc.

jersey + 1, but only if two or more folks wear them on rides. you know, so we can be coordinated in our dorky^H^H^H^H^Hstyleishness and show those fancy randonneurs what's up. how can you have a gang war if you're not wearing your colors? we'll show 'em whats up on the next ride of silence.
or maybe it would be cool to roll up to the bar in matching outfits. i can't tell, i haven't spent enough time on the caphill. either way i'm in for one.
