Remington is back from Europe, and he's ready to show us his newly acquired skills in the International Fondue Arts (and Sangria Mixology, too).
Most fondue ingredients (not including dunkables) and equipment will be provided, but for this to be as awesome as it can be, please see the lists below (I know there are some listlovers here), and help out where you can. We will have several pots going including one for the people with non-dairy digestive tracts.
Route to be determined pending discussion on destination (now Seward Park) and grocery store options.
Fondue forks shall be provided (or Bring Your Own Extend-O-Fork).
NEEDS/WISH LIST (please post or PM me if you can provide help with any of the following):
A Destination (Park With Power Source and Sink/Water Preferred. And, the people want swimming, too) [SEWARD, Shelter #3 or 1 or 2]
1 More Fondue Pot portable/camp stoves & [remington=1, mikeOD=1]
1 more pot/saucepan [foo=1]
lantern [alex]
flashlight [mikeOD]
Extension cord [laura=1, mikeOD=1]
2 Plastic Pitchers (for sangria!) [laura=1, kat=1]
Dumpstered Breads [kalen=some]
A Little of Your Patience and Tap Dancing While The Cheese, Chocolate, etc., Melt [pete jr=some]
Fondue-Specific Needs:
1 cup of Peanut Butter (for the lactard fondue)
1/4 cup of soy milk (for the lactard fondue)
Cheese (imported swiss, sharp cheddar preferred) [kalen, alex]
Bottle of dark beer, Porter or Stout [alex]
Canned heat thing
Sangria Needs:
Several Bottles of Inexpensive Red Wine (like Rioja or Charles Shaw)
Oranges & [mikeOD] Apples [alex... unless they are too delicious and should be used as dunkables]
Brandy
About 2 liters Orange Soda (Remington prefers Orangina) [matthew=2 bottles]
Cups [laura]
Ice!!
Whatever else it takes to pacify yourself while the cheese and chocolate melt. Or, help us stir something!
port [lee]

Nope. If some people can help out with some of the things, we'll all eat and drink very well. You shall feast on cheese, bread, and chocolate tomorrow night!

Do the picnic shelters at Magnuson have power? If not there's the bathrooms close by. Seems like there should be some place to steal power from near there...

Sangria Needs:
Red Wine - does it matter what kind? How many bottles are needed?
Orange Soda - how much? 2-liter bottle?
Oranges & Apples - how many?
camp stove - Mine is blow torch hot or off. If you don't need simmer I'll bring it.
I'll also bring a big flashlight.
Do we need another extension cord?

I'll bring a headlight, some apples (do you want tart or sweet, I'm guessing tart), and some sharp cheese. Thanks for putting up the shopping list, I was just going to post and ask for one.
Magnuson or Mercer are good with me. I haven't been to Magnuson in a long time and the grills are nice. I expect that we can find power.
I've never had fondue and I'm looking forward to it. Plus it's my first .83 ride in forever (not quite as long as remington, but close).
Edit: I can also bring a camp stove and/or a propane lantern if that is helpful. When you say camp stove are you thinking backpacking or a double burner coleman thing? I have the former (I'll bring one larger than my Jetboil) but not the latter.

Rioja should be Sangria friendly.

I'm in the Wizzallingford, so I'll swing down and pick up some bread from the Essential dumpster on my way to get some good cheese. I'll pack a bit of fruit tomorrow, too.
Any particular requests for the bread? I'll grab a variety, but is there something I should bring or leave at home?
mmmm... cheeese
Edit: Picked up several loaves of bread, including white, sourdough, honey-orange, and rosemary. Also, a tasty swiss-style cheese, and some sharp dubliner, which is kinda cheddary. Will bring bananas and japanese pears for fruit.

The lantern would probably be very useful - the mercer picnic area (if that's where we're going) is dark.
I'll bring a bottle of red wine and some oranges. Waiting to hear about the stove.

A variety of breads wouldn't hurt. I'd like something with olives in it or something, but any bread should do, because it will be soaked with CHEESE! We'll be cutting it into 1-inch squares or so, and supposedly it's kind of nice to have crust on each piece. Fondue recipe books are very particular about those kinds of things...
I will be bringing the swiss cheese and wine required for the classic fondue recipe.
Mike, your stove could be useful for the double boiler melting the chocolate and/or marshmallows. Also, the double boiler requires water, but I'm sure we'll all have that anyways. 'Cept for gsbarnes who carries steam instead. The lantern would be good too.
I'll be bringing my dual burner Coleman stove for the low heat melting.
Extra extension cords couldn't hurt, I think we should only need two.
Another grocery stop item: canned heat for one of the fondue pots.
For the sangria: Three each of apples and oranges should be good, and two 2 liters of orange soda should definitely be enough. Oh, and ice should be on the ride shopping list. I'll be bringing the sugar. I'm sure somebody will be getting strawberries to dunk in chocolate too, and we could toss a few of those into the mix as well. Wine can be cheap, as we'll just be watering it down with orange soda (Orangina sounds good...), adding sugar, and supplementing with brandy. I walked by a 49 dollar bottle of Rioja imported from Spain today. Please don't bring something like that. As for how many bottles, I'm not sure. We can always pick up more at the store once we know how many are showing up willing to drink...
We could have both tart and sweet apples; we can dunk them too.
Bring hunger.

I just bought two $11 bottles of Rioja for the purposes of making sangria... unfortunately those are for a different social occasion in which I am engaged this evening (and so am not riding and missing fondue, canned fire, and lotso cheese.) But yeah, imported wines at the Ballard Fred Meyer.

You mean you signed up for a social occasion that DOESN'T have melted cheese? What were you thinking!?

My best friend is throwing me a birthday party based around one of my favorite not readily available in Seattle foods: tapas.
And as I recall, this was originally scheduled for Tuesday, which would have meant two Sangria evenings, one evening of melted cheeses, and one evening of semi-solid cheeses pour moi, but that is not to be.

There have got to be tapas places around Seattle, they're all probably super expensive and fancy... but they're there. I think I've been to one of those fancy tapas places even. One of the tapas was octopus in a sauce that incorporated its own ink, it was tasty, but I don't think the ink actually added anything but presentation points.
I was thinking about wordplay with fondue, but then I realized that was a fondon't.

i'm sorry to admit that i'm home sick with a cold.
i am unsure of my attendance tonight,
so if i am the only lactard attending, do not waste your efforts.
instead, give it to chocolate!
enjoy the ride, i hope to meet you there.
if it's not raining.
and if it's better.
if anyone lives in ballard and would deliver pho to a sick girl. . .

Great idea!
And, I just used the internet to determine that Shelter #3 at Seward Park is the one we want as it has electricity, a sink, and lots of seating! Shelters 1 & 2 have electricity and and faucets only.
But, which shelter won't have a family birthday party in effect? Be prepared to sing.
(Note: Remington is out scouting Magnuson Park facilities this morning... the chart does not indicate electricity there.)

Would "fonude" incorporate pasties? It's naked, but w/o nipples it doesn't count.

Really? What's the name of the place?
PS: I'm set up with a saucepan (ghetto fondue pot FTW), cheese, some bread and a few forks. I just need a burner of some variety and the use of a bread knife for bit.

Planning Information for the
Perfect Picnic
The following sections will help you plan just the right
space for your picnic. In some cases, the size of your
group and the activities you have planned may mean
higher fees, and may mean some sites will not work well
for you. To plan what you need for your picnic, please
use the checklist at the end of this brochure.
How many air bouncers will we need? Do we have a permit for fonude? Looks like our fees will come to about $215.
hah.

UPS driver Paul, silly. Last we heard his glasses were destroyed and he was drunkenly going in search of some friends who were supposed to give him a ride. That was last Thursday.

i talked to him when he made it to his friend's house, and he posted on the internets that even though he got his ass kicked by a curb he thought it was a runner-up for best ride ever.
