Actually, I have 3 helmets as prizes, for all your fast hipsters out there who are too chickenshit to wear helmets. (1 from Montlake 2 from Second Ascent)
Safety is sexy, but only if you make it so!
This is Cal Anderson Park, on Cap Hill, right? What is the best way to get there from downtown?

If you go up the hill on Pine, it'll be the park on your left shortly after you cross Broadway. Velo Bikes is across the street, IIRC. (Pine is one way the wrong way until near Cap hill when it becomes two way, just take an alternate road to that point)

Oh, Molly. How many times do we have to go over this?
Safety is not sexy. It may be advisable, but it is certainly not sexy.
Sexiness is really not a very good angle to market safety from. I mean, really, I have never seen a girl with helmet-head looking sexy. With all due respect, a more realisic angle to market helmets from would be "Safety before Sexy"

Oh my fucking lord I got so wasted last night. I'm guessing anyone who was at Greenlake can speak to that because I don't really remember being there all too well.

Perhaps proofs are a better way to prove this.
Dead ≠ Sexy
Safety > Dead
Therefore
Sexy ≥ Safety

Yeah, you kept telling us how drunk you were. Almost like you had to or else become sober.

Yeah I do that sometimes. I think it's more because my short term memory gets so bad that every few minutes I'm realizing how drunk I am all over again. My friends call those my drunk updates, or "Drunkdates"

i have to disagree...i think a good case of helmet head is DAMNSEXY...of course thats dependent on who the helmet head is attached to.
minor detail...minor.
ya know whats really NOT sexy? brain damage!
take me for example...

There's a flaw in there somewhere... sexy could be either greater than, equal to, or less than safety. all we know about sexy is that is not equal to dead, and safety is greater than dead (but not equal), so sexy could be anything except dead.

Presumption of necrophilia accepted, but not condoned.
I'm with trev on this one: helmet hair is totally hot, especially when combined with the "no-makeup so it can't run or smear" and "cyclist tan lines" looks.
Wow, I feel guilty just writing this.

So I'm pissed that I missed this. I just woke up for the second time today and I'm still tired and kind of shakey from drinking so damn much last night. I blame Ron and his leather pants.

I'm joining the trail of dissenters here.
I remember a certain beautiful person after the fucking hills race last year - mud everywhere, helmet hair, flushed and with all the signs of riding hard. She was told "If you looked like that every day I'd marry you right now," and I'll be damned if I didn't believe it when I heard it.

Awesome job Molly - great turnout, excellent prizes, and pretty mild weather. Thanks for putting it all together!

Ron finished the race! (but in different pants)
Also, THANK YOU everyone! Especially my sexy medics (Laura, Jake, Amanda, Coral, Davis, Richard and Jess!) Your help was essential.
I had a great turnout and it was truly awesome!
Trevor and his boys are so totally DFL, as I am home and they just got to the end of the race. Congrats to them!
Data out of 30 riders:
Evan 1st - 1 hr 24 min
Zack 2nd - 1 hr 26 min
Lucia 6th place, 1st Girl - 1 hr 42 min
DFL Trevor - 3 hrs? or something
Lowest Heart Rate Koos - 98
Fantastic Job!

i hate the locks "WALK YER BIIIIIKE" security...assholes!
Thanks Molly...that was some fun schitt...at least the greenbutter was safe!

Wait, wait, why do YOU have to walk? You don't ride a bike, you ride a trike. Their sign only mentions bikes, right?
It makes me wonder if they'd make a paraplegic get off of a hand-crank bike.

Nope, only because most of them are too wide to fit.

I came in 3rd at 1:27, but apparently I won the heart rate competition at 157.
There's an old formula that says your max heart rate is 220 - (your age), so if I beat you all, you must be slackers. Young slackers. Ride harder next time.
I screwed up by going to Myrtle Edwards first, then Queen Anne, but apparently Evan and Zack also screwed up. I saw Zack miss the 'direct' route up from Golden Gardens, but he still caught me, the fast bastard. Evan apparently missed the Commodore Park checkpoint and crossed the locks before he realized his mistake. So he got to elbow the tourists 3 times. Drop handlebars would have been a definite advantage at the locks.

No, that just means that we are more physically fit than you ;-p
Thanks to everyone for putting this race on! Since I got 2nd again in the Greenlake race, I was happy that I got 1st over here.
I hit all green lights between 9th/James all the way to Denny on 6th ave, so I believe that gave me a good placement. Going up Golden Gardens Dr earned me 1st place for sure.

see, lord o da fries, thats my argument (albeit based on nothing but my own asshattery). first, they dont know that not riding a trike because of some injury (only partially true, but not really) and second...that thing dosent "walk" well. i'd take up more space walking it than not.
dum phucks
last time the group "rode" through the locks i unclipped my feet, put 'em up on the derailure post and used the front tires like a wheelchair. jot big laughs from everyone around, but the guard was pissed

By 'we' I assume you must mean you and Zack. Congratulations to you two on beating a 42-year old who apparently is about to succumb to massive heart failure.
P.S. You owe me $5.

I disagree. Crazy is going to always be the best in bed. I've had problems in the past about putting it in Crazy, but those problems only ever surface after the fact.

Molly, thanks for the great race. The stops you picked made for an interesting and challenging route. So many great prizes! Spokecards! First aid kits! Water bottles! The Wayward Cafe was really cool, too! Also, cheers to the volunteers--especially Perrin, the little loudspeaker.

That was an excellent time. Tons of cool people, great checkpoints (if not a little cruel, such big hills), and awesome prizes.
Tons of thanks to all of you that set that up and helped out!

they were awfull difficult to pass up, I'll admit.
ah, i think hitting the pedestrian bridge over the tracks to myrtle edwards was pretty key. I wasn't sure if that was open to the public or not so i didn't try it.
on the hill up from golden gardens I just said screw it and carried the fixed gear up the stairs to 32nd. heart rate was 129 at the top, and judging from when Brian passed me I would say it took close to the same amount of time as riding all the way around.
