new fun that was invented while i was away for the summer!

pretty hilarious thus far but can we at least have it show who edited each member-specific rule last? that way there is some kind of accountability that keeps it all in good fun and not mean-spiritidness.

i'm okay with all of the absurd crap ya'all write on mine, but some of the stuff on other people i think maybe isn't meant in good fun and is outright mean?

not to mention, i'm dying with curiousity to figure out who added rule number 5 to me: "where am i?" I don't even think I get the joke. So at least let me find out who wrote it so I can make fun of them back.

quick, somebody add a rule to my TOS making fun of me for this thread!

While not being the mouthpiece of the Organization, I can state that the Organization will not institute a Wiki system which identifies the person by name who makes updates. This issue has been brought up and discussed many times prior to your suggestion, however the TOS Salad Sub Committee has reviewed all appeals to track all changes by name and found them to be without humor, and or merit.

There is a well-established protocol if you are dissatisfied wtih your entry in the TOS:

1)Clumsily attempt to remove references to your self from the wiki
2)Threaten to physically attack everyone who you think contributed to your page
3)Show up westlake and announce that you're suing everyone, then ride away.

Dumb? Yes.

Stupid? Most likely.

Entertaining? More often than not.

Actually, this describes a host of things. These include, but are not limited to:

the TOS
.83
my crippling internet addiction
nutpunch
horsecock
your mama jokes

you get the idea.

For what it's worth, here's what I think.

There's nothing wrong with the TOS by itself. There's plenty of funny stuff there. Unfortunately, there's been a lot really shitty stuff said as well. And I mean not just the mean -edged stuff we normally do but comments about several people that just stops being funny and is just stupid. I've been through the historical edit records for the TOS and some of the stuff that's been posted and taken down is like revisiting junior high - and that goes for both sides.

I wasn't witness to any of the events that led to this gripe war besides some half-baked rumors I've picked up along the way. Frankly it's not my fight and not my business. If I'd been present for any of it in person, I'd feel justified in picking a side, but as it is, I'm in no position to do so. I currently have no personal beef with any of the people involved and have no plans to stop hanging out with or riding with any of them.

What I do know is that any entertainment value the TOS had for me is long gone and what's left is just tiresome, rehashed crap that I ignore. I don't even bother reading it anymore. Edit. Revert. Edit. Revert. Edit. Revert. Jesus, even ignoring the content, this is tired shit. If you're going to trashtalk someone at least come up with some new and original material.

I'm with .83 to ride my damn bike, not to watch 90210 rehashes. If you guys want to keep plugging away at each other, I'm not going to try and stop it but I'm also not going to waste any attention on it, either.

I only started biking for real six months ago, and only have been riding with you all for the last two of those months. While I feel that the TOS kind of spiraled into some mean-heartedness, it has remained informative and funny. As is the case with any wiki the more contributors it has, the more true it gets. So don't worry, correct phallicies (hah), try and get more contributors, and it will get more true. If it is true you are worried about, well... shit. Don't write checks your reputation can't cash.

The TOS has helped me fill in the gaps in the giant game of who's-who bingo that joining you hooligans has become. Without the TOS, I'd have to wait 'til some of the old timers get too drunk to mind opening some old bags of cats.

It's kind of like transcribing old folk stories, the TOS is. You'd have heard it eventually, but now you have to read it. Granted reading sux. I've been starting to hear the folk versions of the TOS rolling around in the people I've met both in, outside, and ex-attendees of point83.

My Fav's include:

"No, I stopped going, I got tired of getting hit on... Oh no, not just him, but him, and so and so, and the other..."

"Oh those guys? I heard one of them... on a car during Critical Mass."

I'd say though, the best is when you get to hear shit in bike shops, when the mechanics don't think you know shit because they're avoiding naming names. Then you drop some relevant tidbit into the conversation, everyone chuckles and they change the topic.

Or when you sit down in a group of friends of some chick you recently met (on the internet?) and the guy next to you is bitching about some dude named Derrick Ito and how he bumped into him at Critical Mass, and there were no apologies (and then he continues to whine about small things).

I kept it nameless 'til that last one, but I don't think anyone will mind...

The point is, people should probably make up, simma' down now, and resume the gentle ribbing that is so fun to watch, read in the TOS, or hear from strangers.

The myth:
There was a blood red moon when they set out on bicycles. They would leave as friends but return as sworn enemies....there were punches thrown and ego's blunted....
If we (and I know we are) were more creative no names would be used only stories told...

I think it's immature bullshit that people can't just leave this private drama private. I don't want the joby/aaron bullshit representing our club, or any of the personal issues and griefs associated with it driving wedges into our community.
Don't like someone? Talk to them in person like a grownup. Deal with it in private and then shut the fuck up or go away.
Don't like Aaron? Guess what, fuck off and join Jake Ryder et al in the "I'm a little pussy who can't get along with other people" bike club. Quit clogging up my internets with your personal bullshit. He's a grownup who is comfortable with who he is and how he acts. He's not going to change. I'll see you at Mass and we can still be friends, but I just want to ride bikes, not see/hear/listen to your childish drama.

For the record, I started this thread on the the TOS, and not Aaron, so let's not blame him.

And I started this thread because I do agree with him. For those of you who have been around a long time, please reflect on the idea that I of all people would be siding with Aaron on this issue. I think that says something about the obvious fucked-up-ness that the TOS has spiraled into.

Also, please note that this sort of mean-spiritedness makes girls stop riding with .83 just as much (or more so) than getting hit on. Funny is good, unkind is not. Just erase and block a TOS on Aaron, it can't be that difficult.

I've had a huge change or heart. After reading all the well thought out arguments in this thread I've come to agree with the people.

In order to make our website more accurately reflect the atmosphere on our rides:
The TOS will be replaced with a NPoIP (Nut Punch over IP) system just as soon as your faithful gaggle of nerds is done implementing it.

You read it here first folks!

The Aaron vs Jody thing is pretty limited to the TOS rather than in person conversations had on rides and other gatherings. I know Aaron has been vigilantly removing things he didn't like about himself, and others have been putting it back, and or adding to it. Aaron has also been saying some pretty mean things. Frankly, I'd be happy if that all stopped. It makes for less drama based humor, but everyone around me seem to be having huge drama now, so I'm worn out by it.

langston wrote:

This is as childish response as nearly all of what has been going on in the TOS. You create a standard of "Us or Them" with this thinking, which does not allow for anyone who doesn't 100% agree with the group. There are more recourses than just talking it out, and disagreeing with someone does not have to exclude them. For example, Aaron and I totally disagree about greasing or not greasing crown races on forks. This has never been a point of contention on a ride, nor should it be. But crown race installation preferences are trivial compared to what we have here.

langston wrote:

This is the most flawed of your arguments. While Aaron plays a roll in the club and has contributed to it, he isn't the only one in the club. If Aaron were suddenly unable to ride with Point83, Point83 would not dissolve. Liking Aaron has never been a requirement to join Point83, and it never will be. You don't have to like anyone to join, you just have to ride three times and race once. While I appreciate that you have strong feelings about this topic and are eager to jump to your friend's defense, I would point out two things.
1. You aren't actually defending anyone with your statements.
2. You aren't offering any opportunities to resolve this issue, which is really what we need.

I think there are two main issues here. First, there is the Aaron and Joby fallout and all it's associated drama. Second, there is a larger issue of more than one person being made to feel uncomfortable by Aaron in some way.* The former, is Aaron's and Joby's business and has sadly become more public than it ever needed to. We all know they were friends, don't seem to be now, and any tear(s) shed over that are long since dry. The latter is more an issue of interactions between group dynamics and personal dynamics. There are several people in the group who have unflattering opinions of Aaron. If we were all 100% committed to resolving all our differences, each of those people would pull Aaron aside and talk to him about what ever issue they have with him, Aaron would take it seriously, and respond accordingly. But we're not 100% committed, so as humans are want to do, we gripe about it to other people who likely share our viewpoint, frequently sharing information or gossip the other wasn't aware of. Then we assume it will be all better without talking to the person we actually have a grievance with, or harbor resentment towards that person, usually the latter. When you consider that, Aaron is not regarded for his gracious acceptance of criticism, and eloquent debating skills, it's pretty easy to see how this all ended up where we are.

I think a good first step for everyone is to think about how you deal with personal and social issues with your friends and associates. It's hard to talk to someone about a problem you have, but it only gets harder if left unchecked. It's harder still to talk to someone about something that you are only connected to by association. There is clearly a difference between talking constructively about differences and picking a fight, and some issues are prone to make either party feel defensive which make it even more challenging.

A good second step, is to pick your battles carefully. Sure, you may have altruist motives, but seriously consider the best outcome, the worst outcome, no outcome, and then decide if you can live with each of them. You may have a compelling argument, but the other person may just disagree.

Camp Counselor Chris

* Sorry for being so broad here, but I'm not going to assume I know why anyone is made to feel uncomfortable by Aaron in spite of hearing several compelling arguments.

Not a good experiment. To many factors to tell which is the major reason for winning. Namely:
- Who hits harder
- Who can take more abuse

Although it does offer great potential as a great gambling venture.
