mike, you said you'd post your routes. now i've figured out a clever way to give you a place to put them! it'll be alot easier to search this forum to find maps and routes than to wade through all of the crap over in the westlake center forum.

Megan's folks live in the PT. I'm interested in any route information available, I'm due up there before the weather turns.

Hey, there could even be a separate forum for this, you know, so that we don't have to wade through shit about working on bikes while looking for routes, or wade through shit about routes while trying to look for mechanical advice...
just a thought.

Ok, here are the Port Townsend routes that I've used. Read the route descriptions below the linked maps for more info.
1. Ballard to Port Townsend via Edmonds/Kingston, Port Gamble, Hwy 104, Hwy 19, Hwy 20. Taking 104, 19 and 20 you'll encounter a lot of traffic, but it's the least hilly route. There is a shoulder for most of the way, except for a short section somewhere on 19 or 20, I forget where. (There are bike maps that show this - you can find them online and I have an extra that I'll bring Tuesday. Remind me to give it to you before it gets covered in french fry grease.) This one ends at the pizza window along the waterfront.
Looks like the map counts the ferry mileage, so it's probably 4 miles shorter than stated.
2. Entering Port Townsend via waterfront trail. There is a waterfront trail that starts on Hwy 20 a few miles from town. This is a nice way to arrive in Port Townsend if you are riding up Hwys 19/20.
3. Port Townsend via Larson Lake Road, Egg And I Road and Cape George Road. This one shows the route we took last time to bypass Hwy 19 and 20 as much as possible, and enter town from the west. More scenic, more miles, more climbing, more pleasant if you're not in a hurry. This one ends at the hiker/biker sites at Fort Worden.
There is also the route along the water, turn right directly off the Hood Canal Bridge and go up Paradise Bay Road and Oak Bay Road. I rode Oak Bay Road last year and found great scenery, little to no shoulder, and very large high speed trucks. Haven't gone back. This route is probably very hilly also.
There is also camping at Old Fort Townsend State Park, but I haven't been there yet.
