When the thieves stole our bikes, one of the more useless things they took were two Cateye Opticube handlebar brackets. So now my wife and I both have functioning headlights but no bracket to mount them on our bikes. Does anyone have one or two they don't need?

Evelyn lost the bracket for hers once, so I just lashed the light onto the bars with an old tube.

Obviously not what you're looking for, but a related story anyhow.

I can look in my bin of excess plastic mounting hardware and see if there are any spares. I'll let you know.

I had what sounds like the same bracket stolen along with my bike two years ago, and I picked up the replacement at the parts counter at Gregg's Cycle for cheap.

You do realize that the point of a bracket is that you can take the light on and off easily?

Here's another question: when the lights go out, what do you use for a flashlight?

they do sell reusable zip ties, and/or they are pretty cheap to snip off when yyou need them.

I avoid this whole problem by mounting the light to my helmet and by no parking my bike outside if at all humanly possible.

I don't have a replacement, but I'm down one NR UltraFazer 3.0 mount myself... I've heard you may be able to get stuff from the makers of these lights to replace the mount.

Not everyone rides a stem which allows for this, and it will not stay put on bars. It's worse than a ghetto fix in my book.

Just what I want to do when it's dark: fumble around cutting zip ties with a sharp knife.

Really, man, this is a temporary fix at best. I'll be haunting the used bins at Recycled (they have a 'mounting brackets' bin) and checking the Cateye website.

Noted. If I have two hours free, I'll get down there, and you better have them, or I'll, I'll... turn around and ride back.

Actually, if anyone in the area wants to pick me up a couple and bring them to the 9/11 ride, I'd be very grateful.

I did. Did you confuse Tuesday with Thursday again?

Lucia (and Gregg's) ftw! I picked up two mounts today.

So, Aaron, don't bring any hardware to the Thursday ride. But do check your PM, as there's something else I'm looking for.

Wait, did Aaron just admit that he's out in BFE? What changed while I was gone!?

I've never fully understood that mindset. Since I'd be most likely taking a broken bike on a bus to visit any bike shop, the 30 feet from his shop to the stop for the direct bus to downtown seems as close as any other shop. Except of course when I lived in the U-District, cause then I'd just wave my dick in the air in a big arc and hit 3.

Why ride the bus for an hour when you could ride it for < 10 minutes though?
