I’m going sailing for the weekend. Friday around 12:30 I want to move our boat through the locks and sail over to the Elliot Bay Marina. A friend is moving his boat too.
Anyone want to have a happy hour sailing adventure? It would be nice to have one extra person (per boat) to help handle lines in the locks. The rest of the time you can just sit back and enjoy the ride, but if you want to do some learning, that’s cool.
Hit me back if your free, our boat is on Lake Union, ride your bike over, load it into the boat and ride away from Elliot Bay. (a 3 hours sail, 15 minute bike ride).
Beer is free!

I'd totally help you, if you were doing this on a day I was off work, so find someone else to help you drink beer.

I'm sailing tomorrow. I'd like to leave early to mid-morning and spend sometime on Lake Washington. I need to be back by 5.
Good chance of light rain, mild but steady winds.
I've got room for 2 people at the moment.
It would be a good day to call in sick.

Justin, I'm headed to Eagle Harbor tomorrow night, but I won't transit the locks until at least 8pm, nine is more likely. You tying up at Elliott Bay Marina tomorrow night? Come over to Eagle Harbor and hang out! Mexican bar has liters of beer for 4.50 if memory serves me correctly (not too likely).
Saturday heading either to Blake Island or Pt. Orchard (haven't made up my mind). You cruising all weekend?

Some day I will get myself a little sailboat and learn how to use it. It's always been something I've wanted to do, but I'm just too poor. I'll have to wait until I'm older.

I sail something close to 100 days per year, possibly more.
I pay <$200 a year for the privilege.
If you are a UW alum, the Washington Yacht Club accepts your membership. Annual fee. No charge for classes or boat checkout once you are a member.
If you volunteer at Center for Wooden Boats, every 3hrs of volunteer time gives you one free hour of boat rental.
The annual fee at Sail Sand Point is really reasonable, too.
If you are willing to withstand the verbal abuse and end the day stinky, drunk, sore, and covered in saltwater, you can volunteer to race on shorthanded boats.
If you wanna learn how to sail, let me know. I am an instructor and would be glad to take out and show you a thing or two--no charge. Buy me a pint or two.
Sailing is not terribly difficult, it just requires you to put in your hours and get familiar with a different way of thinking about things. And it is really fucking fun.

Saturday I'l be heading up to Port Townsend to help bring Eric and Cass's new boat home. Woot!

Listen for a hail on the VHF as you approach Shilshole w/ Cass and The Beard. If we are lucky, we can be lock-buddies together on our way back to freshwater.
