Due to popular demand and the gracious offer of wheel truing stands, I am proud to announce that I am having a wheel building party on Wednesday, September 19th at 6:00 PM!
Bring your wheels in need of truing!
Bring your rim, spokes, nipples, and hubs for building!
Bring some beer so we can drink it!
And bring something for your allergies if you are allergic to cats (one cat) or dogs (two dogs).
I have work space, knowledge, and a desire to help you learn how to build wheels! Come one! Come all! We're building wheels!
I'm at 35th and Troll. The address is:
924 North 35th Street, Seattle, WA, 98103 (do your own Internet map search)
It's a buttercream colored house at the top of the hill on 35th. You'll climb some stairs and get up on to a wood deck. I'll have my sliding glass door open to hear you say the password "Ridebikes" to get in. Seriously, I don't have a doorbell and you'll have to speak up in a loud voice, or call me.
Bike parking out back and in front. I can take a few bikes inside, but space is limited, so bring a lock.
It may be possible to convinced me that making daiquiris is a great idea. Sadly, I'm the only one here who can speak to my daiquiri making ability, but I have to tell you, they are great. They make Cheesecake Factory daiquiris look like Slurpees.

I really do need to finish the wheels for my mothers bike. If I don't have them done by then, expect me to show up on your doorstep with parts in hand.

i've got a truing stand that can be borrowed if need be.
of course it's covered in hepatitis, though.

Well I'm definitely coming, seeing that my back wheel is all slightly-askew.

Would I have to step through a puddle of herpes to get it?

Woo, wheel building is fun. I'll also bring a tensionometer.
Where do I need to go?
19th is perfect timing.

I have a Wheelsmith tension meter, and I doubt we'll need more than one at a time, but you're welcome to bring it. I wish I had a dishing tool, but I'll talk about how to get around using one.

My hubs are not in yet (dammit!) so hopefully QBP gets its shit together and gets it to the shop ASAP.
Of course I've got spokes, nipples, and rims ready to roll.

I should also mention that I have hubs laying about. If you want wheels, I can cut you a great deal on some hubs. Then all you'd need is spokes, nipples and rims.
All the hubs I have are cassette hubsets. Not to say I only have rear hubs, but nothing freewheel or fixed. PM me if you're interested.

I won't be showing. Apparently the wife bought tickets to TMBG, so I shall be skipping handling Ben's hepatitis vector of a truing stand with you gents.

I'll be there - I've been wanting to learn how to use a tensiometer. The fact that I don't have one yet has made this difficult. I just found that the last wheel that I redished had some spokes that became seriously loose after riding it a few hundred miles.

I'll be there. I need to learn how to true my own damn wheels. I don't have wheels to build up yet, but I'll try that whole watch and learn thing. Plus, I already paid $50 for the Wright Bros. class.

I'll just make you build one since I fucked up both my hands last night when two guys staggered out of Blue C sushi causing me to wreck. This took 20 minutes to type...

They took none of it, except the guilt, which only seems to affect catholics, Irish, and jews.

yess. i'm bringing my friend Morgan--i've been trying to help him fix up a frame that got left in my basement a while back, and i want to re-build the wheels as he says they're 'loose' (i haven't seen it in a few months, so i'm hoping he's talking spokes, not hubs). i'll bring spokes, nipples, beer, hands. i'm leaving the rim i want to build on home so i can work on his wheelset, kid needs a bike like WHOA.

Thanks Chris for hosting the wheel building party, which was actually more of a wheel maintenance party, but still lots of fun. Alex showed me how to use his tensiometer, which I used to "correct" the uneven spoke tension problems of my rear wheel. Though at one point I had the wheel looking a bit like a Pringle.

Indeed, much thanks to Chris for sharing his expertise and home and pets.
And thanks to Jen for also allowing us in the home!
Mango daiquiris with chili are the bestest!

Yeah, that was a great time. Thanks for hosting. The daiquiris were awesome. The movies were fun. I learned a ton, and pedaled away with true wheels. Too bad this morning I got my wheel caught in the gaping gap on that road that connects 45th and 46th near Aurora. I managed not to bail, but there was a humorous time when my bike was bucking like a horse, one of my feet was off the pedals, my back tire was in the air, and I landed into the fixed-gear-human-piston routine.

If people end up with more wheels to build then we can host a followup at my place. I might have a replacement 32 hole rim fairly soon and always have other wheels ready to build.
