usually, the group will stop in that instance, if sufficient hollering and notification is provided. People 50yds ahead of you don't know/care what's going on behind them unless you make them aware of it. Speak up, son!

Personally, I'd love to just drop everyone who has a more techincal issue then a flat or chain throw, unless we're out in BFE and/or they don't know how to get home. And yes, I'm not being hypocritical here; when my bike breaks down more cataclysmically, I send the group along and take myself home.

Lessons: Pump your tires before you leave the house. Get or learn how to do regular basic maintinance on your bike. Replace your bald tires. Don't whine.

i have seen the group stop for people, but in this case it was early in the ride and i feel that people were already anxious to get to the final destination so they could begin the group's /real/ favorite activity - binge drinking on a beach somewhere.

the tendency of .83 is for the regulars to bunch up front, while the noobs take up the rear. the chances of someone stopping who is already trailing behind is null and void. maybe / hopefully things have changed. perhaps i will give it another shot sometime.

not only does that suck, and i'm personally sad to hear that, i dont think it's quite fair to say that because you're not a seasoned member of a hottie that we abandon folks on purpose.

Dozens of rides i've been on and we ALWAYS stop. Hell, I make a point to make sure the stragglers are accounted for. And if it's not me, then theres always someone back there picking up the rear.

Is there the slightest possibility you didn't make the extent of your situation known? Was it fixable in the first place? Have you since resorted to bringing basic bike tools so you dont get stranded in the first place? Rule numero uno in my biking book is to make sure you can fix your bike well enough to get home.

granted, when this group rides, it rides. It by no means shuns folks because of looks...are you kidding me? Have you LOOKED at these dorks in the light of day?

again, sorry dude. im sure your cute enough to ride with us again if you wish.

From what I've seen, the group tends to split up later in the rides but usually, that's when people are peeling off anyway. Generally, I've noticed at least one old hand tends to run sweep on the outbound leg at least and there's usually plenty of stop breaks on hills to let people catch up.

anyhow, i know the group isn't perfect but the number of people dropped with mechanicals and needing to walk home is, as far as i know, still on the small side. you're not a noob, you're an oldtimer. if i'm riding with you and you say "i've got the tools for this" when it's something quick like retensioning your chain then i'm inclined to let you fix it and catch up. it's certainly easier than trying to wrangle the group.

i guess what i'm saying is i'm sorry you got missed, but please don't assume that is somehow de rigueur for the group. you have to have ridden with us enough times to see us stop for mechanicals (and the occasional biological) from all kinds of riders, popular, ugly, cute, n00b, etc.

yes, this is how it can and usually will work, but please...we've all had to start from 0 and grow into this band of idiots. Maybe a good nut punch to a seasoned rider will break the ice (and their sac) and you can inform folks not to ride like dicks.

.83 doesn't drop people on purpose and usually does a pretty good job making sure everyone makes it back to civilization by the end of the night.

I hate to use you (Rogellio) as an example but I remember going back to dig you out of the bushes a few times on the absinthe ride. (Anytime brother).

I've been dropped before, but it was mostly caused by me being a giant pussy and less about the group riding that night.

Yes it sucks, but if you really need help all ya gotta do is yell" MECHANICAL!" Someone will hear you and come to the rescue.

It made me sad and feel like i was not wanted.
